This position provides architectural planning, design and technical construction expertise for the NC Department of Public Safety. Responsibility includes administration of contracts for design, new construction and renovation of existing correctional facilities, investigation of existing facilities and conditions, production of construction documents and specification as well as preliminary studies and assessments for new and existing facilities. This position works closely with in-house engineers and the State of North Carolina Construction Office.
Duties include building and space programming, estimates and evaluations of costs, space requirements, code research and documentation. This position is expected to have a thorough knowledge of the NC Building Code, ANSI A117.1, NC Energy Code and the Americans with Disabilities Act as it relates to construction. The review and correction of in house document production regarding details, materials and quality assurance are duties of this position. This position involves a broad knowledge and expertise with varied project types and clients. It involves working on multiple projects, with multiple consultants and clients maintaining a professional working relationship with all parties. This position is responsible for onsite surveys and investigations that are translated into reports and working documents. Field work includes identification of code deficiencies and construction elements, building envelope, structure and systems.
Qualified applicants must possess and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:
* A thorough knowledge of principles and practices of architectural design and building construction. * A thorough knowledge of NC General Statutes and NC Building Codes. * A thorough knowledge of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) as it relates to building construction requirements. * Documented architectural planning / design of new construction and/or renovation experience. * Effective communication both orally and written is required for this position. * Graduation from an accredited university or college with a degree in Architecture. * License to practice Architecture by the North Carolina Board of Architecture.
Management preferences: * 5 years experience in the field of Architecture. * An understanding and working knowledge of AutoCad and Revit * Experience in contract administration including field supervision for the purpose of ensuring construction conformance to the contract documents * Extensive knowledge of construction methods and materials. * Experience in detention facilities architecture and construction * Experience with a variety of project construction and occupancy types.
