The purpose of this position is to ensure the safe and efficient flow of City traffic. This is accomplished by coordinating transportation improvement and funding issues. Other duties may include conducting field studies, reviewing development/capital project plans/studies, advising the Traffic Division of the Engineering Department, managing capital improvement projects for transportation, monitors division expenses, providing various administrative and community services and by interfacing with other city employees, Allen Independent School District staff, and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees.

Conducts field studies by observing traffic related situations and responding to inquiries on traffic related issues, including traffic signal, speeding, and school traffic-related concerns.
Reviews development plans and traffic impact analysis for proposed developments and zoning cases to ensuring compliance with city codes.
Administers Federal, State and locally-funded capital improvement projects for roadway and traffic signal system improvements, from design through construction.
Prepares annual operating budgets for the Traffic Division of Engineering and pursues funding opportunities by coordinating with the Texas Department of Transportation and North Central Texas Council of Government related to transportation improvement projects.
Provides administrative and community service by attending Planning and Zoning Commission meetings, City Council meetings, public hearings and coordinating with the Allen Independent School District staff regarding traffic safety projects and crossing guard training related to schools.
Supports Traffic Division field personnel by interviewing qualified applicants, recommending new employees, coordinating training for department personnel, recommending/observing/monitoring work tasks, and providing general guidance for solutions that comply with prudent engineering practices.
Formal Education / Knowledge Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires professional level of knowledge of a discipline equivalent to that which is acquired in a Master's degree-level of study, P.E., Legal degree, CPA, etc.
