The Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation bridges the gap between knowledge and practice, idea and action, and research and impact to promote the creation of new ventures and commercial partnerships. The Polsky Exchange, the 34,000 square foot collaborative working space and education facility for the Polsky Center, is serves as a link to the broader state and city knowledge economy network and as a space where faculty and students from the University can connect with an array of private sector partners, including mentors, venture capitalists, financial service firms, and other start-ups from the University and its surrounding communities.
Duties: The Senior Associate Director, Strategic Planning, will lead the Polsky Center in creating, monitoring and executing its strategic planning and partnerships.
This person will play a pivotal role in growing the University of Chicago and Chicago entrepreneurial ecosystem. He or she will direct areas of focus for the Polsky Center to collaborate with partner organizations, such as 1871, Clean Energy Trust, iBio, and MATTER, to catalyze growth in the startup ecosystem. This individual will identify new prospective partners and grow collaborative relationships. This individual will work with the Polsky Center's leadership team to articulate strategic priorities and create a comprehensive vision. Identify key areas of focus and growth and recommend how to allocate resources.
40% Drive the growth and enrichment of the Chicago and University of Chicago entrepreneurial ecosystem by fostering greater integration and success of Polsky's partner organizations
40% Lead Strategic Planning by: (1) Developing a vision for collaborative partnerships and their role in building a more effective entrepreneurial ecosystem, and share this vision internally and externally; (2) Collaborating with Polsky leadership team to articulate long and short term strategy for Polsky Center, including creating a strategic planning process; (3) Monitor related organizations' approaches to entrepreneurship and engagement in entrepreneurial ecosystems, and make recommendations to keep the Polsky Center in its leadership position. These organizations include partners, universities, investors, corporations and others.
15% Play a leadership role in the Polsky Center and Polsky Exchange operations and mentoring team mates.
5% Other duties as may be assigned.
At least 7 years of experience in positions of progressive responsibility and some management experience.
Experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, strategic relationship management or strategic planning is required.
Experience working with or at startups or early stage investment is required, or equivalent experience in economic development.
