Challenge yourself, your peers and our industry by shaping what health care looks like and doing your life's best work.(sm) The Strategic Initiatives and Innovation Leader will drive top-line and earnings growth for OptumRx. They will define business strategies and drive execution and results in partnership with OptumRx leaders. They will initially manage a team of 6-8 individuals. This leader will advance a portfolio of external and long range (>36 month) opportunities worth at least $100M in top-line and tens of millions of IOI dollars. This leader will:Serve as the interface between UHG enterprise, Optum Corporate and OptumRx to support corporate priorities. Advance a set of OptumRx strategic priorities on behalf of the OptumRx executive leadership team. Examples of priorities could include business model transformation, business line strategy development, M&A and partnerships. (Where applicable) Align regulatory and external affairs agenda to advance business strategiesBuild market intelligence capability including strategic customer/ consumer segmentation, voice of the customer/ consumer capability and competitor intelligence. Infuse market and competitive perspectives into strategy development. Work in partnership with Sales, Marketing and Product to advance capabilities. Drive innovation activities at the business line level. Translate market intelligence into prioritized white space opportunities, align priorities with Optum corporate and coordinate efforts to develop business strategies against highest priority areas. Identify and conceptualize innovation that will advance business goalsDevelop strategic business acumen among OptumRx management. Build organization capabilities and discipline in development and execution of competitive strategies.Primary Responsibilities:Act as main point of contact to drive content development within OptumRx for:Board of Directors Investor Relations Earnings Corporate Events – Forums Corporate Business Planning (LRP, Annual and Monthly Business Review) Drive strategy development and incubation for highest priority external and long range opportunities Frame strategic questions Develop fact base including analysis of industry trends, customer needs, competitive threats, expansion opportunities and internal performance Make recommendations on winning strategies based on evaluation of strategic options, data driven insights Drive decisions on strategic priorities Mobilize execution once decisions have been made. Work cross-functionally in team-of-teams construct within business segment and cross-enterprise to accelerate strategic implementationAct as an advisor and influencer with OptumRx's senior most leadersEstablish relationships across all parts of the organization – OptumRx, Optum, UHGBuild a team and promote professional development of strategy team members; enhance their skills and capabilities through project work and one-to-one coaching
Required Qualifications: MBA or equivalent post-graduate degree10 years experience in strategic planning, product strategy and innovation Demonstrable leadership skills where team members are not direct reports Experience with various business and product models, both within and external to healthcare industryPreferred Qualifications: Superior conceptual, analytical and financial modeling skills Demonstrable ability to communicate data and strategic frameworks for executives Experience in analyzing competitive position/ customer needs and market trends Demonstrable ability to deliver results with large-scale, cross-functional teams Ability to manage & prioritize multiple projects, ensuring quality & on-time delivery Superior communication (written / verbal), presentation, and facilitation skills High energy, detail oriented and creative individual Ability to make an immediate impact in a fast-paced environment with multiple and changing prioritiesExperience within PBM business UnitedHealth Group is working to create the health care system of tomorrow.
