The Masters School Department of Performing Arts seeks a dynamic Drama and Dance Teacher to teach Middle School students and to direct and choreograph a major musical theater production in both the Middle School and the Upper School. We are seeking an energetic, enthusiastic teacher who is eager to collaboratively build our Middle School’s growing performing arts program. Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate passion for the arts and for teaching middle school students. The Department of Performing Arts’ aim, particularly in the middle school years, is to facilitate learning experiences that ensure a lifelong passion for and appreciation of the arts and that allow students to build towards more advanced opportunities during their upper school years. We are looking for candidates who have also demonstrated a commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion, within and outside the classroom. Masters is eager to consider application from traditionally underrepresented groups.
Teach Middle School dance and drama classes
Co-Director/choreographer of Preludes (Middle School musical theatre troupe)
Director/choreographer of annual Middle School musical and Middle School Spring Dance
Director or director/choreographer of Upper School musical production or the Upper School Musical Revue
Successfully engage and develop student’s interest and enthusiasm for the subject matter
Serve as an advisor for 8-10 students
Provide supervision during recess, in study hall and in other moments of the school day, as needed
Attend Department of Performing Arts meetings, grade-level team meeting and Middle School faculty meetings
Participate in the life of the Middle School by attending full group activities including morning meeting, student presentations and performances and culminating events
Bachelor’s Degree in Theater or Dance required, Master’s Degree or professional experience preferred
Strong musical theater background preferred
Understanding of and desire to work with middle school students
Experience working with students of varied skill levels
Familiar with and willing to explore student-centered pedagogical approaches
Willing to be a flexible team player and shift responsibilities year to year as best serves students
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
Demonstrates kindness, empathy and patience
Proficient in the use of technology
Prior teaching experience with middle school-aged students
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
Interest in being an active member of The Masters School community, such as advising, student life, leading a student club, or coach of a team
