The Clinical Applications Specialist acts independently to provide specific training and clinical support related to the acquisition, implementation, and use of MHS' applications portfolio with Epic. Clinical Applications Specialists apply specific clinical knowledge and expertise to modify and enhance system/application modules, EpicCare Ambulatory. Additionally, the clinical application specialists identify and implement optimal system solutions and completing the more complex assignments to meet customer goals and desired outcomes. Incumbent team members function as key liaisons for user contact and customer service on behalf of information services and are accountable for end-user satisfaction. Individuals in this job classification may also assist in the development of training materials and may participate as educators for end-users as related to specific information systems and services. Clinical Applications Specialists provide feedback and may make recommendations to management and project directors, ensuring that the organization's goals, philosophies, and objectives are optimally supported by information technology. The clinical application specialists work closely with business leadership to understand the short and long-term strategic business plans, elicit requirements, work with leadership to identify and implement technology solutions to support plans. The clinical application specialists work with the hospital billing team for implementations of new Hospital Operated Departments (HOD). Application Specialists are familiar with physician ambulatory and inpatient clinical workflows. The clinical application specialists participate as the EpicCare Ambulatory â˜subject matter expert' in interdepartmental projects. Application Specialists often lead Epic optimization / enhancement projects. The incumbent team members are skilled in creating and executing a project plan as it relates to individual project tasks and or the overall project.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
Respond to requests for assistance from IS colleagues and IS site management.
Demonstrates self-motivation, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, problem solve, manage multiple tasks and priorities, and work with diverse groups.
Provide education and support to physicians and clinicians.
Research, analysis and support for IS team.
Identify and resolve complex issues associated with assigned applications to ensure high levels of availability and user satisfaction. Maintain contact with MHS' Clinical users and senior team members to ensure understanding of needs, assignments, and overall goals.
Consults with management and staff regarding appropriate and practical use of automation as it relates to existing and proposed clinical applications, leads systems analysis/selection efforts, and guides user support functions to optimally acquire and use systems. Collaborate with business and IT leadership to define project implementation approaches and to identify and monitor related key performances metrics.
Collaborate with Application Managers and Directors to meet evolving user needs related to existing or anticipated applications. Lead or participate in the development of user requirements for new or updated applications. Participates in re-engineering of operational work-flow processes with end-users/business owners.
Participates and lead in various projects, work groups and team meetings to ensure achievement of quality outcomes, objectives, timetables, and overall integration of best practices in clinical and business office decisions and documentation.
Develop and improve information management policies to ensure a highly competent, professional, and effective IS organization.
Actively participate in available education and training programs to increase understanding of assigned applications, technology, and general information management.
Provides a variety of training concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Able to monitor and report the frequency and effectiveness of these end user training efforts. Maximizes findings to increase end user's utilization of clinical and patient access and financial systems functionality.
Conducts computer training programs for end users and assists them in the personalization of clinical and business systems through the development tools, templates and settings.
Maintains continuously high levels of end user contact, attending relevant meetings, actively participates in organizational activities, and functions as a key contact and leader for Information Services to ensure communication, collaboration, and teamwork. Independently identifies and resolves complex problems and issues that arise in and outside of the department.
Undertakes ad-hoc assignments as required to react quickly and positively to new or emergent situations.

Knowledge of hospital operated departments (HOD) using EpicCare Ambulatory & InPatient modules
Experience in Epic ambulatory clinical workflows with an understanding of InPatient Epic workflows desired
At least 2 years of HOD experience preferred
Specific credentialing in application modules and/or technologies highly preferred (e.g. Epic).
Working knowledge of PCs, collaborative computing tools, re-engineering/process improvement techniques, healthcare information management, general information architectures and technology, systems integration, laws, and regulations relevant to assigned applications.
Minimum of 4 years progressive nursing, pharmacy and/or exceptional clinical IT experience, significant and successful clinical project management.
Knowledge of healthcare and evolving industry standards/challenges.
High energy levels and tolerance of tight deadlines, time pressures, and ambiguity.
BS degree in clinical or discipline or equivalent business experience in a related field preferred. Licensure as RN, Pharmacy, Laboratory, MRA or other healthcare business area preferred.
EpicCare Ambulatory certification preferred.
