UDayton Global is an innovative partnership between the University of Dayton and Shorelight Education. Together, they created UDayton Global's International Accelerator Program (IAP), which combines intensive English-language instruction with courses, programs and additional support to help international students adjust academically and socially to the University of Dayton and the community of Dayton, Ohio. Offering programs for both undergraduate and graduate students, the IAP expands the university's efforts to educate students from around the world and ensure positive outcomes.

The Academic Director implements and manages IAP curriculum and support services for international students. The primary responsibility of this individual is to ensure the delivery of a high-quality academic experience for all students in the program. This program combines English Language instruction and support with academic instruction and acculturation. Reporting to the Managing Director, the Academic Director ensures the quality of this specialized academic program, organizing effective student support and guidance in areas of English for academic purposes, tutorials, and progression through the program.
In cooperation with university academic units and university administrators, the Academic Director works collegially with students, faculty members, and administrators. The Academic Director must be a strong team player who participates in both academic and student services initiatives.
Work closely with the Managing Director, Academic Chair, UDayton Global, and Shorelight Education to supervise and manage all academics of the program, including curriculum delivery, mentoring of faculty and staff, and overall student experience
Collaborate with academic units to develop a program that meets the university's objectives and further strengthens the university's mission, international reach, and outstanding reputation, and maximizes student success and progression
Partner with the Academic Chair, Student Services Director, and University personnel to ensure a holistic program encompassing academic success, integration into the university environment, acculturation, student service support, and student success
Oversee academic program planning
In partnership with the Academic Chair, implement and monitor student retention processes and policies for the program
Identify, hire, mentor and retain academic team
Manage academic operations, including ensuring that established systems and procedures are followed and accurate records and reports on the program are maintained
Partner with the Managing Director, Academic Chair, and the Student Services Director to liaise with key offices, including the Office of the Provost, deans' offices, academic departments, and the English Language Institute
Liaise with appropriate committees and other partners related to the matriculation and onboarding of new students initially, through the IAP, and into university degree programs
Work with academic departments to ensure appropriate scheduling of courses and assignment of instructional staff for the program
Analyze reports on the progress and satisfaction of the students' achievement of objectives, including progression through the program and degree completion at UDayton Global
Maintain academic program quality and standards of the university and its accrediting bodies, and ensure continuous evaluation and improvement of the program
Represent the program through participation in academic events, on familiarization tours, and through memberships and affiliations as appropriate
Adhere to university policies regarding academic integrity and related university academic policies
Partner with various campus entities to ensure the program's students are fully integrated into the campus community
Earned master's degree in TESOL/Applied Linguistics, or related field and a minimum of five years of experience in higher education, language school management
Three years of teaching experience at the university level
Experience working with both undergraduate and post-graduate international students in a higher education setting
Record of exceptional interpersonal, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
Ability to work in a diverse environment and exhibit cross-cultural competence and understanding
Proven customer service skills and demonstrated work ethic
High energy level and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated problem-solving, decision-making, and creative-thinking abilities
Demonstrated tact, patience, and diplomacy, particularly with non-native English speakers
Demonstrated international outlook
Evidence of having a hands-on approach to academic delivery, student service, and business growth
Demonstrated understanding of class management tools, including databases, Microsoft Office programs, course management systems, and forms of media to support an interactive and student-centered classroom instruction
Experience working within an educational collaboration and/or a complex organization
