Bay Farm Montessori Academy is seeking a full-time Learning Support Specialist for the 2018-19 school year. As a member of Bay Farm’s Student Success Team, the Learning Support Specialist plays an integral role in supporting our students to reach their fullest academic potential. We are looking for a student-centered educator with strong interpersonal skills who is well-organized, team-oriented, and passionate about creating the right environment for students.
The Learning Support Specialist should have prior experience working with children ages 12 months through 6 years. A special education undergraduate and/or graduate degree is preferred, but not required. The State requires that the Learning Support Specialist be DEEC Lead Teacher certified, or capable of becoming DEEC certified upon hiring.
Bay Farm Montessori Academy is a vibrant school that believes in the Montessori approach to education. The successful candidate will be able to support accommodations and educational practices that uphold our daily Montessori practice.
The learning specialist must have the energy and skills to efficiently complete the following daily tasks:
-Assist in identifying learning challenges through observation, data collection, assessment, and collaborating with the classroom teachers.
-Provide instructional support to students using the appropriate Montessori materials for instruction.
-Consult, educate, and confer with teachers regarding student accommodations and academic instructional strategies.
-Support the teachers in communicating with parents regarding referrals, student progress, and evaluations.
-Implement necessary standardized testing accommodations when required for students.
-Help interpret standardized test scores and specialized evaluations (specifically academic evaluations and occupational therapy evaluations) for administrators and classroom teachers.
-Maintain student records and take meeting notes.
-Be an active member of the school’s Student Success Team.
-Assist in admissions and placement decisions.
-Consistently check in with on-campus student tutors and off-campus student tutors (in person, via phone, and/or via email).
-Collaborate with Bay Farm’s school counselor to determine how to best help the students working with the school counselor and the learning specialist.
