The Senior Sales Director, under the direction of the Chief Sales Officer, will be responsible for promoting Lafayette Parish to convention and sports groups, 276 Peak and above, as a premier meeting and convention destination consistent with annual goals and objectives established in the annual Marketing Plan.
The Director will be responsible for lead generation, qualification and conversion of leads based on designated market through sales calls, prospecting, digital communication and tradeshow / event participation.
He / She shall also be responsible for ongoing partner relations involving local hotels/motels, facilities, attractions, meeting planners, and other related hospitality and city representatives. The individual must have a high level of motivation, strong communication skills, excellent time management and thrive in a fast-paced work environment. This person will be based in Lafayette, LA.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage, research and prospect prospective convention, sports and meeting group opportunities at least 3 hours per day when in the office.
Generate qualified sales leads and definite bookings for destination hotel, motel, and facility partners.
Responsible for conducting sales calls and meeting with prospective and existing clients.
Participate in industry tradeshows, conventions and events; conduct regular in-market sales trips.
Partner with LCVC team members on bid proposals; coordinate and conduct bid presentations on behalf of Lafayette Parish.
Conduct regular in-market, face to face, client qualification meetings with perspective groups.
Invite qualified planners and decision makers to Lafayette for site visits and destination reviews.
Participate in relevant in market industry related networking events and activities.
Serve as liaison between client and destination partners.
Establish and maintain excellent business relationships with representatives of Lafayette’s hotel, motels and facility representatives through personal communication, leads, etc.
Identify and consult with Chief Sales Officer on the sales materials required as promotional pieces & program materials.
Maintain active involvement in relevant industry related organizations.
Meet with organization executives, planners and committees to assist as necessary in the selection of Lafayette as an event destination.
Host events to create awareness of Lafayette Parish in Louisiana.
Maintain and ensure timely input into LCVC’s comprehensive sales tracking system.
Academic – The Senior Sales Director will have a BA/BS with an emphasis in marketing or sales, and five years of related experience which may substitute for academic experience.
Personal Characteristics – Good communication and public presentation skills, and proven ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and groups. Must be people-oriented, have high stamina/high energy levels, and be very “goal oriented”. Other characteristics important are proven problem analysis and resolution skills with exceptional analytical skills that work with a very diverse group of partners.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities – The Senior Sales Director will have demonstrated sales success in a hotel or convention bureau (a minimum of five years) or have at least five years’ experience as a meeting planner for a state, regional or national association or corporation. Must have solid experience in general office computer programs (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) as well as experience in working with a comprehensive computerized sales tracking system. This position requires an ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects/responsibilities and people simultaneously while meeting stringent deadlines.
Physical requirements - The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to walk, bend, reach, stand for extended periods of time (tradeshows/receptions) and sit for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds, have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and be required to speak clearly and hear well when communicating over the telephone and in person. The individual must be able to travel independently to domestic and international destinations via commercial airlines.
