At Girls on the Run, we envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. We believe in the power and promise of the next generation.Using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running, we teach the life skills our girls need to step into the world as strong, confident women.
Reaching 11,000 girls in 2018, our 10 week, 20 session program occurs after school at 500 school communities across our 8 counties. Led by teams of volunteer coaches, Girls on the Run builds social emotional skills in girls in 3-5th grade, while our Heart & Sole program engages girls in 6-8th grade. Each program integrates training for the Girls on the Run 5k into the program as a way of teaching goal attainment.
At Girls on the Run, we believe that the promise of the program should be available to every girl who needs it and any girl who wants it without worrying about finances. Our commitment to serving all girls means that more than half of our program sites are in communities with the fewest resources, and 85% of our girls receive some sort of financial assistance or fee subsidy to attend the program.

Girls on the Run – Chicago is seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking fundraiser to lead our Development team as we raise over $1M to support and grow our mission. A successful candidate will have a proven track record of increasing revenue through both new and renewed gifts, understanding of the philanthropic landscape in Chicago and our 8 county service area, teaching and mentoring staff in the practice and process of fundraising, as well as serving as an advocate for the mission with funders.
We are looking for someone who can easily navigate between corporate engagement opportunities and marketing-based sponsorships, as well as cultivate high-impact individual donors and foundations.
The ideal candidate will provide:
Strategic direction and oversight for all aspects of a comprehensive development function: corporate partnerships, foundations and individual gifts, as well as through events and charity athletes.
Dynamic leadership for a team comprised of three development professionals eager to fulfill the mission of Girls on the Run – Chicago.
Effective collaboration with our communications team to engage audiences through direct communications, Public Relations, social media, advertising, executive positioning, events, and messaging.
Energy, passion, and ideas to enhance the culture of the entire organization.
Passion for Girls on the Run’s mission and eagerness to promote and communicate the philosophy, mission, and values of Girls on the Run to stakeholders.
A sense of humor and commitment to working hard for a great cause.
At least 10 years of professional experience, with a minimum of seven years of senior-management experience supervising and mentoring
Solid educational background including an undergraduate
Proven track record of success in developing and executing fundraising programs that tie to the mission of the organization. Or, success in corporate sales and
Adaptable understanding of technology - proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), Adobe and other desktop publishing tools. Knowledge of SalesForce is a plus.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with ability to make effective oral presentations to large and small
This position reports to the Executive Director. This position is full-time. Evening and weekend hours are often required. Vacation blackout periods may apply.
