University Technology Office (UTO) Fiscal and Business Operations is looking for a Financial Analyst to perform detailed cost and financial analyses along with a broad scope of professional accounting activities requiring experienced, professional knowledge and application of accounting principles and practices. This individual will perform a wide range of detailed/complex accounting and advisory functions pertaining to an assigned fund area, account, or department and assure day-to-day operations are carried out in accordance with established accounting principles, policies, and objectives. Specific tasks may include, but are not limited to, developing and interpreting detailed cost accounting information, making recommendations regarding the efficient utilization of resources and the proper accounting transactions, creating and auditing financial reports, utilizing databases to manage budgets, access queries and macro development, and working closely with state and local budgets.
$65,000 per year
Performs specific tasks related to rate development, including identifying cost centers and their related expenses and calculated recovery rates (e.g., recharge, indirect cost), and prepares related reports.
Provides technical assistance in the design of cost accounting or reporting systems and related forms and documents.
Assists with the provision of advisory services to departments with respect to updating billing rates and interpreting cost accounting data.
Recommends alternative solutions to cost accounting problems.
Performs specialized financial or cost analyses and prepares related reports.
Queries data from a data warehouse for regular and ad-hoc administrative and financial reports and interprets the results.
Prepares standard accounting reports and statements and also non-standard reports and statements, such as detailed cost and financial analysis, forecasts and projections reflecting interrelationships of accounting data. Prepares or assists in preparation of special accounting studies by extracting data from data warehouse.
Interprets data and points out trends or deviations from standard.
Identifies informational needs of management and revises or refines account structures or data accordingly.
Prepares intricate journal entries, maintains complex ledgers, prepares detailed cost accounting information, and reconciles and analyzes reports and ledgers.
Decides proper handling of financial transactions; approves transactions within designated limits.
Provides solutions to problems presented by staff and recommends changes to accounting system, methods or procedures to management, utilizing knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Interprets accounting data, analyzes reports and recommends action to be taken.
Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and university regulations.
Reviews computer reports for errors or inconsistencies; investigates and corrects problem.
Keeps informed by researching and evaluating appropriate professional and related legal literature as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related area (or a Bachelor's degree with advanced accounting coursework) AND two years of auditing, cost accounting and/or financial analysis experience; OR, Master's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration AND one year of auditing, cost accounting and/or financial analysis experience; OR, six years of progressively responsible and diverse accounting experience and coursework; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Experience working with ASU Financial Systems, Advantage, and Dashboards.
Experience with MyReports, Workday, Access queries, and macro development.
Experience working with PeopleSoft.
Experience working with Microsoft Office, especially Excel based programs.
Experience preparing detailed numerical computations and reports on a timely basis.
Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures.
Experience in establishing priorities, multitasking, assisting others and maintaining effective working relationships.
Evidence of effective verbal and written communications skills.
