The Town of Paradise Valley is currently seeking a Sr. Engineering Technician. This position performs a variety of para-professional engineering plan review and field inspection work in support of municipal engineering programs and projects.
Answers questions from architects, engineers, contractors and citizens regarding public works projects in progress or being planned, and provides as-built information as needed.
Inspects public works oriented construction, maintenance, and repair projects, both in progress and upon completion, to ensure that all work being done by Town personnel or private contractors complies with project specifications and applicable Town, County, State, and Federal codes and guidelines.
Reviews grading and drainage plans, infrastructure plans, drainage reports, legal descriptions and traffic control plans for conformance to applicable Town codes and ordinances related to public and private projects.
Maintains detailed records of inspection activities and prepares reports documenting project progress and status.
Meets with a variety of officials, business owners, contractors, architects, engineers, and the public to explain policies, procedures, and proposed projects.
Investigates and resolves complaints from property owners regarding public works construction, maintenance, and repair projects.
Conducts inspections related to the Town’s MS4 storm water permit.
Coordinates outsourced engineering service provided by consulting firms.
Ensures contractors working on Town projects have appropriate permits and licenses.
Performs other work as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge of engineering principles and practices, including field survey and drafting techniques.
Knowledge of procedures for issuing various public works oriented construction permits.
Knowledge of the location of streets and addresses in the Town.
Knowledge of uniform standard specifications for public works construction and general construction codes.
Skill in maintaining effective working relationships with property owners, construction contractors, architects, engineers, other Town staff, and the public.
Skill in inspecting construction sites to determine compliance with project specifications and applicable construction codes.
Skill in reviewing construction plans and specifications to determine if they comply with established industry guidelines, regulations and safety standards.
Skill in understanding and interpreting complex regulations and guidelines.
Skill in understanding and interpreting complex engineering oriented regulations and guidelines.
Skill in understanding and interpreting Town codes and zoning ordinances.
Experience equivalent to five years full-time para-professional engineering work; or an Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or closely related area may substitute for two years of the required experience; or a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or closely related area may substitute for a total of three years of the required experience. Must possess a valid Arizona operator's license.
