HealthSearch Partners is seeking a transformational, mission focused nurse leader to join a dynamic leadership team at Health First's Holmes Regional Medical Center.
The Director of Patient Care Services – Emergency Services/Emergency Department, serves as a critical leader of Holmes Regional Medical Center, overseeing directly and indirectly all patient care in a busy Emergency Department. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations – Clinical Services, the Director serves on the hospital leadership team and represents the interests of patients and caregivers during strategic discussions and decisions.
This Director will oversee the daily operations, volume growth, quality metrics, performance and employee leadership for a 54-bed Emergency Department with 86 FTE staff that has achieved designation as a Level II Trauma Center. The Emergency Department treats approximately 78,000 patients annually and has a 30 percent hospital admission rate. In addition, the Emergency Department experiences strong census swings as a result of seasonal patient fluxes.
The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Director of Patient Care Services – Emergency Services:
Well-prepared academically with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN); please note that a graduate degree (MSN, MHA, MBA, MEd) is required;
Preference for a registered nurse with eligibility for Florida licensure as well as candidates in an appropriate professional society;
Preference for candidates with clinical certification from a nationally recognized organization.
A strong background in hospital patient care delivery with at least five years progressive leadership experience and demonstrated results in fast paced, medium-sized hospital; experience working within a healthcare system environment is preferred;
Preference for candidates with experience as an Emergency Department Director; candidates from larger hospitals with manager experience in a large Emergency Department, but without the formal director experience, will also be considered;
A demonstrated ability to build effective teams and to lead, mentor and develop Emergency Department staff; experience in “transformational change” and process improvement is important;
A track record of commitment to patient care, sensitivity to clinical issues along with a grasp of the “big picture” and strong grounding in every aspect of patient care, including finance;
A strong customer service orientation and a track record of measurably improving customer service;
A management style which is fair, consistent, open, and inclusive, but emphasizes accountability and measures results; an advocate for patient care, nursing and physicians;
Successful experience managing the financial aspects of nursing leadership (budgets, productivity, etc.);
A track record of strong physician relationship-building.
Strong, demonstrated relationship skills that foster trust and teamwork and a common focus on excellence in all areas;
A forward focused team player and team builder who focuses on the good of the entire organization and can inspire others to work together to achieve organizational excellence;
A good communicator who is also a good listener and can be comfortable and effective at all levels of the organization; strong written and verbal communication skills are also important; candor and common sense are appreciated;
A creative, pragmatic problem-solver who is energized by challenges and change and identifies untapped opportunities on which to capitalize within the organization;
A demonstrated high level of integrity; guided by a sound set of ethical principles;

As a Primary Stroke Center, the Medical Center has a goal to transport, assess, diagnose, and treat each stroke patient within three hours of the onset of their symptoms. Holmes also offers advanced, life-changing Interventional Neuro-Radiology procedures for advanced stroke treatment found nowhere else in Brevard.
