King School—a coed day school for 693 students PreK-12 in Stamford, CT—seeks a dynamic and forward-thinking student-centered educator, with a vision for what Middle School (186 students in grades 6 – 8) could be, to serve as the next Head of Middle School. The ideal Head is an energetic and experienced teacher and administrator eager to both support and challenge the middle school faculty in creating a student-centered experience that celebrates childhood while preparing for adolescence and the academic rigor of the upper school. A dynamic and goal-oriented leader, s/he embraces the children, the job, and the school. The Head serves as the guardian of an engaging culture and chief problem-solver for the division. The position requires clear communication, organization, high energy, and high emotional intelligence—and is rewarded with the sense of inspiring the community that King is the place to be for an exceptional middle school experience.
Drawing students from over 30 communities in Fairfield County, Connecticut and New York, King has a long history of academic excellence within a community that has always placed the individual student at the center. King is the product of the merger over time of four different schools in the local area: Low-Heywood, King’s Day School, Thomas School, and the Low-Heywood Thomas School. The School completed the process of renaming and rebranding itself in 2016 as King School. The School continues to distinguish itself by showcasing the deeply rooted, defining elements of the School, which stem from each of the founding institutions, and which enable its PreK-Grade 12 students to thrive: exceptional faculty; student-centered approach to teaching and learning; academic excellence; and a culture of integrity, kindness, perseverance, and respect.
At King School, each student is known well - both as a person and as a learner. King believes that knowing its students well is crucial to academic excellence because students who feel noticed, known, validated, and valued as individuals are more likely to engage fully and joyfully in the challenges of learning with resilience and success.
