Hargrave Military Academy, located in Chatham, VA seeks a dynamic and strategic leader for the position of Director of Communications and Marketing. The Director of Communications and Marketing is the voice and face of Hargrave Military Academy, and reports to the President. The Director coordinates with the Admissions Director, the Chief Development Officer and Development Office. The Director will be someone who embraces the school’s mission, values, and history with the ability to effectively communicate these to prospective and current parents and students, educational consultants, and mission congruent organizations. He or she must bring energy, creativity, a positive attitude, and integrity to the position.
The Director will be an integral member of the senior administrative team. As such, this individual holds an important role in informing the strategic direction of the Academy. The Director is expected to work collaboratively with other school leaders, share data, and report on enrollment trends within the industry and at Hargrave. The Director will provide information and insight critical to the work of the Board of Trustees in developing institutional budgets and goals.
Education: Minimum of a Bachelor Degree, preferably in Marketing, Advertising and/or Communications.
Skills and Qualifications: Proficiency in Adobe Suite, SEO, website and social media management. Also must be proficient in Constant Contact or some other Email Marketing Software.
To be the Chief Branding Officer of Hargrave Military Academy.
To plan and execute programs which enhance the public perception of the school.
To initiate and lead activities intended to interest parents in sending students to Hargrave Military Academy.
Act as the Academy’s point of contact for all media inquiries. Develop positive relationships with the news media.
Maintain the Academy’s Hometown press release program by writing press releases on behalf of Cadets and the Academy.
Assist Director of Admissions in developing, implementing and maintaining marketing and advertising strategies for student enrollment and retention.
Identify emerging marketing tools and concepts and test their effectiveness. Monitor outcomes and reports results to key stakeholders.
To provide networking opportunity and support for admissions directors and marketing representatives at individual schools to plan joint efforts to raise visibility of the Academy and to work on specific Academy-based marketing efforts.
Develop, coordinate and implement Hargrave’s annual marketing The Director of Admissions, Director of Communications and Development Director work together as a team on this issue.
Present cyclical advertising and marketing reports to assess markting plan effectiveness.
To design print and electronic advertising/marketing material supporting all Academy stakeholders.
To edit and oversee periodic publication of the Academy’s flagship publication, the Guidon. The Guidon has an approximate circulation of 5,500.
To develop, write, design and edit external marketing materials for admissions. Update external marketing products, including the Academy CD (video) and website, as necessary.
Help provide photographic and video support for events and maintain the Academy’s image archive.
Maintain consistency of message/look in all external publications.
Maintain the design of the Academy’s website and social media.
Maintain accurate and timely information and assement of the Academy’s website and its effectiveness.
Be responsive to parents/Cadets as they make requests of the Communications and Marketing Department.
To perform other duties as assigned by the Academy’s leadership.
