Working for a leading global energy trading business, the Data Engineer is responsible for the development and support of the company's front office data infrastructure, ranging in scope from the real-time price and event infrastructure to the large scale databases supporting price and fundamental analysis of the commodity markets. The role provides assistance and technical support for all aspects of the data process applicable to the Front Office.
The role has responsibilities for both development and analytics.
On the Development side the role will work with users and data modellers to gather requirements and take ownership for the delivery of any development work within the agreed timelines. This will includedeveloping software for delivery using the appropriate technology, code standards and testing standards as agreed by the team. On the Analysis side you should be able to support and further develop other desktop tools built by the data engineering development team; Take ownership of the development infrastructure required by the above tools and, whenever possible, adopt the company's standard toolset for source code repository, continuous build and deployment.
The role requires someone who can work and communicate with the commercial trading teams assist them in understanding and defining the requirements for data and proc, which includes providing technical advice to the business units by identifying the most appropriate tools/processes for any given task.
To be considered for this role you should ideally have:
Some experience of working within a trading environment, ideally for energy or commodity trading and have experience of delivering enterprise IT systems
Working experience as a data or systems engineer.
You should have a flexible approach to work and be able to work in a cross functional team of data engineers/scientists and analysts in developing new improved analytics and be comfortable implementing them.
You should have a strong understanding of all facets of data governance including data architecture and modelling, data quality management, data profiling, metadata management, master data management, and data integration.
In terms of specific experience:
Knowledge of messaging and or data streaming technologies would be very useful as well as hybrid or cloud distributed architectures such as Hadoop / MapReduce / AWS / TensorFlow /Azure.
Strong development languages such as C#/Java, or C++ or Python is important too. You should have experience in Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, T-SQL and PL-SQL Programming.
You should also have knowledge of NoSQL database solution. The role will also require knowledge of automation tools, logging technologies and monitoring tools.
