Facilities Development and Management, Office of the University Architect, seeks an Architect Sr. to perform comprehensive architectural programming, budget analysis and conceptual design work and may supervise a design staff. Perform in-house architectural programming and/or coordinates outside consultants in the preparation of such. Prepare due-diligence analysis of existing buildings/areas and prepare reports to support comprehensive architectural programming statements. Manage staff or consultants during all phases of projects. Develop Request-for-Qualification statements and make pre-submittal presentations to design consultants. Participate in the negotiation of professional design service contracts, with outside consultants, during the procurement process for projects.

Supervise activities of subordinates. Coordinate and manage projects in accordance with Arizona Board of Regents policies. Prepare detailed architectural programming documents and conceptual schematic design documents. Prepare conceptual budget estimates based on programming/schematic design documents with multiple resources. Negotiate fee with selected design professionals and prepares contract ensuring cost will be within Arizona Board of Regents guidelines. Work closely with the University Planner’s office and relevant stakeholders to determine project scope. Attend and represent the University at meetings for compliance with the Arizona Board of Regents and University policies and standards. Review work of consulting architect(s) to ensure that University standards and contractual requirements are met.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or related field and five (5) years of architectural experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Registered as an Architect in the State of Arizona OR NCARB (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards) Certification and become a registered Architect in the State of Arizona within six (6) months after date of hire. Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or related field
Ten (10) years of architectural experience
Building systems, materials and construction methods.
Professional design services and construction services.
Structural, mechanical and electrical engineering systems as they pertain to overall building construction costs.
Organizing and coordinating the work of others.
Managing multiple projects and coordinating the work of a design team to ensure compliance with the architectural program statement.
Demonstrated knowledge of:
Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint software
Autocad or Revit software, and Sketch up electronic sketching software
Drafting of conceptual architectural plans
Federal and state facility Life Safety and International Building Code requirements
Use of Means Cost Estimating, Uni-Format/other industry construction cost guides
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to communicate orally in the English language with customers, clients, and the public using a telephone and in-group and face-to-face, one-to-one settings. Drives University vehicle and/or cart to campus site. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks. Drive University vehicle.

This position is located at the University Services Building, 1551 S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ (on Rural Road south of Apache Blvd).
Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.
This position is dependent on the continuation of funding from a specific source other than state appropriations. As such, this appointment may terminate when the funding is no longer available.
