Position Description: The Femtosecond Spectroscopy (Dani) Unit (https://groups.oist.jp/fsu) at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) (www.oist.jp) is seeking to recruit multiple postdoctoral researchers or scientists in the fields of 1) nonlinear and ultrafast terahertz spectroscopy, 2) time resolved photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) and spectroscopy of novel materials, and 3) ultrafast opto-electronic devices. Technician positions to support ‘van der Waals heterostructure and device fabrication’ are also available. Details of each position are on our website (https://groups.oist.jp/fsu/vacancies).
The unit’s experimental facilities include state-of-the-art laboratories with multiple kHz, 100-kHz and MHz class amplified, ultrafast lasers, multiple ultrafast oscillator systems, a low-energy electron microscope and photoemission electron microscope (LEEM/PEEM), time-of-flight based Momentum Microscope (METIS-TOF) and a 17 T cryo-free superconducting magnet for nonlinear optical & THz measurements. First-rate institute facilities for material characterization and nanofabrication are also available (https://groups.oist.jp/prs/equipment-gallery).
Interaction opportunities exist with various international institutes, including Stanford Univ. (California, USA), Rice Univ. (Houston, Texas, USA), École Normale Supérieure (Paris, France), TIFR (Mumbai, India) and Univ. of Cambridge (UK). Generous funding to present research results at international conferences is also available.
Qualifications: Postdoctoral and research scientist applicants are expected to have a PhD in the field relevant to the position. Talented Masters-level applicants could be considered for the ‘ultrafast opto-electronic devices’ position. Applicants at all levels will be considered for the technician position. See https://groups.oist.jp/fsu/vacancies for further details.
Compensation and Benefits: We are committed to attracting top-class researchers from across the world, and to ensuring a supportive, creative and productive atmosphere for them and their families. The final compensation package will take into consideration the candidate’s experience and background, and will be competitive with international standards.
