The ASU Innovation Collaboratory is an incubator for enabling and catalyzing Universal Learning. This is an evolving model of higher education that is “capable of being of service to all learners, at all stages of work and learning, from all socioeconomic backgrounds, through educational, training, and skill-building opportunities.” Convening creative minds across ASU’s communities, the Innovation Collaboratory focuses on opportunities to enrich teaching and learning, including the exploration of emerging technologies.
Three focus areas are identified as critical to address in order to achieve Universal Learning: digital fluency, student success, and next-generation learning environments. Each focal area will have a dedicated workstream of people from various units and colleges across ASU to guide, evaluate, and support the development and success of Big Innovations — technology-enabled solutions that advance Universal Learning.

Under direction of the Chief Information Officer, with a dotted line to the Chief Technology Officer of EdPlus and the Vice Provost for Student Success, leads and designs the architecture of next generation learning technologies for ASU and manages operational functions of the Innovation Collaboratory.

Leads the design and architecture of next generation learning experiences and technologies for ASU.
Directs, plans, organizes and manages activities of multiple, complex information technology related functions throughout the University Technology Office, EdPlus, and across organizational lines in support of the Innovation Collaboratory, including but not limited to the proposed Creativity Commons (known today as the Computing Commons) on the Tempe campus.
Oversees the development of physical learning spaces as well as the five essential cross-institution work streams that carry out technology-enabled projects to explicitly advance the programmatic focus areas that were conceived as the path to Universal Learning: digital fluency, student success, smart campuses, cross-institution collaboration, and next-generation learning environments.
Performs ongoing surveillance and forecasting of changes in next generation learning landscape, including benchmarking of both peer institutions, corporate learning initiatives and nascent entrants in a changing international landscape.
Manages resources to accomplish goals and initiatives to ensure they are on track to meet the overall objectives of the Innovation Collaboratory.
Directly interfaces and ensure open and collaborative lines of communication with faculty and/or administrators regarding ongoing work streams, applications and existing resources.
Acts as a direct liaison with university IT staff regarding ongoing operation, application and existing resources.
Acts as an advocate for multiple constituents, ensuring the resolution of complex problems by building relationships, embracing challenges, managing conflict, and streamlining processes.
Manages projects (educational and administrative) related to the 5 work streams.
Works closely with the administrators of appropriate policies and makes recommendations to leadership on their continuous improvement.
Works closely with the CIO and EdPlus CTO in evaluating the effectiveness of the unit, providing reports of evidence-based findings, critical statistical analysis, and surveys or other appropriate methods of analyses of a complex and difficult nature to executive leadership.
Master’s degree in technology, business management, communications or related field and five years of experience leading technical teams, which include three years of supervisory/management experience in complex organizations; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Thought leadership in next generation learning spaces and architecture for both online and immersive campus environments.
Knowledge of historic and current and trends in computing and educational technologies.
Knowledge of current advancing educational technology and innovation to the state-of-the-art in both academia and industry.
Design and implementation of creative learning spaces to foster diverse learners and faculty in engaging learning experiences
Knowledge and understanding of the research, instruction, and administrative functions of area assigned.
Knowledge of current information technology best practices including technical aspects (enterprise and cloud strategies, data centers, facilities, and instrumentation laboratory strategies) and support aspects (TQM, customer service techniques, and organizational issues).
Knowledge of strategic planning principles and practices.
Demonstrated change and innovation management abilities.
Knowledge of cultivating large-scale collaboration that leads to tangible products and project implementation.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective long-range relationships with faculty, administrators, service professionals, and staff.
Ability to work independently and as part of a management team
Ability to shape and manage change in a complex and highly matrixed organization.
Strong leadership, innovation, customer service, quality management, and problem resolution skills.
Skill in both verbal and written communication.

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%)
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (15%)
Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities and adapt to swiftly changing requirement, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
