POSITION: Faculty Medical Physics Position in Radiation Oncology

Two clinical medical physics positions are available at the University of Rochester’s Wilmot Cancer Institute in Rochester, New York. We are seeking a motivated medical physicist possessing well-developed clinical skills. Interest in clinical research for professional growth is a plus. Minimum requirements include a M.S. degree with 1-3 years of clinical experience. Candidates should be Board Certified (or Board Eligible). Recent graduates of an accredited medical physics residency are also encouraged to apply. Ability to obtain NYS licensure or permit to practice is essential. A post-offer health assessment is required. The faculty appointment level and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s accomplishments and experience.
The Physics Section is a unit in the Department of Radiation Oncology and covers 8 facilities in the Rochester, NY region including the main facility located at Strong Memorial Hospital. The physics section consists of 13 physicists, 15 dosimetrists, 1 technician, 2 IT personnel, and one administrative staff. The department has 18 radiation oncologists, clinical staff, and research protocol and grant staff. The department’s goals include excellent patient care, education, and clinically applied research in radiation oncology and physics. The facilities treat 3000+ patients per year including pediatric patients on 11 multi-energy Linear accelerators, a Novalis SRS unit, Tomotherapy unit, Philips Orthovoltage unit, and 2 HDR units. Treatment modalities currently include radiosurgery using the BrainLab Novalis system, IMRT, 3D, SBRT using the BrainLab ExacTrac system, IGRT, GYN HDR, and Prostate HDR. Treatment planning systems include Varian Eclipse, BrainLab iPlan/Elements, Tomoplan, and Elekta Pinnacle. Record and verify systems include Aria and Mosaiq. Current physics research topics include 4D dose reconstruction, on-beam CT image reconstruction, brain SRS planning and biologic modeling, lung treatment plan optimization, etc. In the physics section, each physicist is expected to work on his/her clinical duties and projects with a mindset of ownership, while cross-covering other duties and collaborating with others. The section is run by the principles of fairness, transparency, and clinical prioritization.
