Engineers and coordinates the construction or modification of the Cooperative Energy's transmission substation facilities. Ensures that substation project designs comply with applicable Rural Utilities Service (RUS), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) requirements.
Essential Duties and Requirements:
Prepares cost estimates and schedules for capital improvement projects.
Evaluates alternative designs and construction materials and equipment used for projects.
Analyzes various design and application problems, and prepares studies to obtain solutions.
Prepares information on proposed projects for use in environmental and regulatory reports and hearings.
Develops and prepares structural/electrical and other substation drawings in cooperation with Engineering Assistant(s).
Develops and prepares specifications for equipment purchases.
Prepares work scope and contract specifications for the contract construction of substation facilities.
Checks substation design documents for errors and omissions, and recommends approval by the Director of Substation Engineering.
Reviews and evaluates proposals to ensure that proposed construction or equipment meets requirements of the specifications and contract documents.
Recommends award of construction or purchase of equipment to the Director of Substation Engineering based on evaluation.
Coordinates and supervises the contract construction of substation facilities to ensure that equipment and material is installed in accordance with the specifications and manufacturer recommendations.
Performs a final inspection of all completed construction and recommends approval by the Director of Substation Engineering.
Prepares all required close-out documents on RUS construction and equipment purchase contracts.
Coordinates and develops substation project schedules, as required, with other sections in Power Delivery, other Cooperative Energy departments, Cooperative members, and other external parties involved in substation projects.
Bachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering (ABET Accredited Institution) Or
Bachelor's Degree Civil Engineering (ABET Accredited Institution) Or
Successfully pass a security sensitive background screening. Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements
Basic knowledge of the structural design and layout, electrical arrangements, relaying, supervisory control, equipment selection and procurement methods associated with the design and construction of electric utility facilities.
Ability to perform basic and advanced calculations using given formulae and data and interpret the results against given standards.
Ability to understand and develop designs that meet all applicable code and standards requirements.
Ability to read and interpret reports, plans, specifications, alternatives and cost estimates.
Knowledge of AutoCAD and related programs is desired.
Knowledge of MS Project or similar program is desired.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision as well as within a team environment.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work with others in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision.
