The master teacher should bring energy, curriculum development skills, and artistic expertise to the Visual Arts department. Other responsibilities and necessary competencies include:
Demonstrating best practices in teaching Visual and/or Graphic Arts
Interacting effectively with parents, colleagues, and members of the administration
Exhibiting excellent teaching skills and a willingness to teach art in Middle School (6-8)
Developing a love of art in students and attracting students to elective courses in art
Working effectively with students of different artistic abilities
Teaching a specialty area of art geared to one’s expertise (e.g., graphic design, digital photography, etc.)
Developing and teaching new electives
Teaching six sections of art (6th grade semester and year-long 7th and 8th grades)
Understanding the development of middle-school students and possessing a passion for working with this age group
Bachelor’s degree in a Visual Arts field or Art Education; Master’s degree highly desirable; previous teaching experience in an independent school setting preferred.
