The Materials Science Division (MSD) of Argonne National Laboratory is seeking applicants for a research scientist position in the area of experimental condensed matter physics. Preference will be given to an accomplished, internationally recognized mid- to senior- level scientist whose intellectual leadership is evidenced by an outstanding publication record, invited talks at major topical conferences, awards, and other recognition. Although exceptional candidates in all areas of experimental condensed matter physics will be considered, particular emphasis will be placed on expertise in magnetic materials, quantum materials, or related fields. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in a dynamic and collaborative environment of physicists, chemists and materials scientists. She or he will leverage the resources and expertise at Argonne to build and maintain a research group at the forefront of condensed matter science and to successfully pursue funding from appropriate sponsors to support their research activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Experience at a level typically achieved with a Ph.D. and at least 10 years of research in academia, industry, or a national laboratory setting.
Deep expertise and knowledge of experimental condensed matter physics, with emphasis on research in magnetism and magnetic phenomena. Experience in growth and characterization of thin films by transport, optical, or synchrotron x-ray scattering techniques is desirable but not required.
The position will remain opened until filled; starting date is flexible, with a target of fall 2019.
