Position Title: Transmission Resource Engineer Intern
Division: Power Supply
The role of the Transmission Resources Engineer Intern is to be is responsible for providing assistance to overall long-range transmission planning for a reliable and economical electric delivery system to the Member EMCs of NCEMC.
Academic and Trade Qualifications:
Pursuing an Electrical Engineering degree with a desire to problem solve. Ideally the student should be entering their Junior or Senior level course work. Experience with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Access and VBA a plus). Able to work in normal office and outdoor conditions. Perform well both individually and within a team. Able to be responsible for a project from start to finish.
Experience working in an office environment is desirable.
Assist with annual delivery point load forecasts and power factor cost studies.
Apply technical problem-solving skills to recommend improvements to processes.
Assist with the analysis of data and development of presentations.
Monitor developments and trends in transmission planning and other factors related to NCEMC's delivery of power to its Member EMCs.
Assist with annual work plan and budget preparations.
Communicating research and results to management through reports and presentations.
Assisting with development and monitoring of Renewable Energy and Grid Modernization programs.
Developing professional skills
A basic knowledge of the electric utility industry is desirable. Must know engineering economy principles.
Abilities and Skills:
Must be able to effectively prepare written reports, memos, and correspondence and be able to communicate effectively with others. A detailed working knowledge about the use of personal computers is necessary, including software applications. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint is required.
Relationships and Contacts:
Reports to: Manager of Transmission Resources and is accountable to him or her for results achieved.
Internal Relationships: Shall maintain internal relationships necessary to achieve the purpose of the position and the desired results.
External Relationships: Shall maintain necessary external contacts and relationships to achieve the desired results.
Normal office conditions with occasional travel required. Overtime during month-end close may be expected. Planning of schedules will be expected throughout the year for certain tasks.
