The Role: Platts is looking for an experienced analyst to lead the data driven modeling and technical developments underpinning its fundamental and price forecasting of energy markets in various sectors and regions globally. Reporting to the Head of Modeling, Platts Analytics, you will primarily focus on energy markets within the European and neighboring regions, and secondarily support the runtime, development, and lifecycle management of a global suite of energy models. This role will leverage your detailed knowledge of statistical and quantitative modeling techniques, energy market knowledge, and also draw on your team management and leadership skills.
Be responsible for the models and technical tools that support the European regional energy analytics products.
Work collaboratively with globally located modeling teams to support runtime operations.
Practice discipline and hold team members accountable to maintaining Model Governance best practices.
As the technical modeling lead, engage with market experts to develop robust and relevant models for use in products.
Harness existing data sets and, where appropriate, identify new, valuable data sets for collection and analysis.
Contribute to the rigorous review of input data as well as performance monitoring of output data.
Engage with customers, market experts and potential customers, demonstrating expertise and acting as ambassador for Platts' pursuit of analytical excellence.
Communicate expertise through the creation of compelling "must-have" models and tools that help customers make better-informed trading, risk management and investment decisions.
Leverage numerical models to help shape the Platts Analytics stories by analyzing all factors that contribute context to the current and future value of regional energy markets, and their interaction with global energy markets. Play a part in identifying emerging trends early and, where possible, anticipate market movements.
Be responsible for leading and developing a small team of analysts, ensuring business needs are balanced with career development of team members.
The Impact: Platts' Analytics group is responsible for analyzing, interpreting and forecasting global gas, power, oil and coal market fundamentals and prices. Our customers represent a wide range of activities across the energy industry and, as a result, our analysis is reviewed and challenged from many different perspectives. You will play a key role in supporting Platts' highly rated services and could also play a role in developing these services into major new growth areas.

The Team / The Business: You will manage a sub-team within the wider Modeling team which comprises international specialists with outstanding knowledge of energy commodity markets.
Your Experience & Skills:
Proven expert experience in numerical modeling, fundamental analysis and price forecasting of energy markets.
Ideally at least 8+ years of work experience in energy markets with emphasis on modeling and numerical analysis.
Applied knowledge of optimization, linear programming, time series, and/or machine learning techniques.
Proficient with Python, R, or Matlab, SQL, and source control such as Git. Advanced capabilities in data visualization concepts and tools a plus.
A postgraduate degree (Masters, PhD) in Economics, Math, Engineering, Data Science or equivalent numerate disciplines (preferred).
An effective manager, or experienced analyst with strong mentoring experience, with a global mindset who establishes and drives performance, collaboration and personal accountability that delivers business success.
Track record for delivering against demanding targets and deliverables. Comfortable with high levels of responsibility and accountability.
Excellent communication skills which include ability to listen, concise written style and good verbal skills. Has the ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally and externally.
