With the growth of the Civil and Natural Resources Engineering Department we are excited to be establishing a new civil systems engineering group. We are recruiting high-potential candidates and emerging leaders to contribute to the development of our teaching and research programmes in civil systems engineering.
What You Will Do
Applications are invited for a continuing (i.e. permanent and tenured) position in the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor or Professor (equivalent to Assistant, Associate Professor or full tenure professor in the US System). The level of appointment will depend on the successful candidate's relevant experience.
The Civil Systems Engineering group will lead research and teaching in the sustainable development and management of the built and natural environments. The group's expertise will be applied to diverse challenges in climate change; sustainable energy systems and resource management; building information and service systems; infrastructure systems modelling and performance assessment; and asset planning and management.
For this position, the department recognises the need for expertise in risk, resilience, complexity, economics, and smart and connected information systems, with application to multiple infrastructure systems. The successful applicant will use methods such as data analytics, decision analysis, operations research, network analysis, risk analysis, economic analysis, social and organizational analysis, complex systems, and systems modelling.
Who You Are
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in a relevant discipline and have a demonstrated record of published research in civil engineering systems as defined above. The successful candidate will have a commitment to excellence in teaching of core courses relevant to civil engineering systems at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and will be expected to establish a vigorous research programme. Applicants able to contribute to teaching in other core subjects taught by the Department and who have demonstrated a strong research record of working across multiple infrastructure systems would be preferred. The appointee will be expected to supervise final year undergraduate projects, Masters and Ph.D. students, and pro-actively attract research funding.

The Department's involvement in the industry and government funded centres (Quake Centre and Quake CoRE) provides the new group with links to world-leading research and relevant professional groups, while New Zealand engineering's world-leading practice in long-term asset management and critical infrastructure resilience provide drivers for uptake of new methods and graduates.
