Working in an integrated business model, Edmonton’s Transportation Planning and Design section develops designs from concept to tender for many transportation modes. Working with our partners throughout the City organization, we help build the infrastructure needed to get around the city, allowing us to meet the objectives of the Transportation Master Plan and Municipal Development Plan.
Join the Transportation Planning and Design team as a key contributor in planning, coordinating, supervising and directing all activities of your business unit, including the management of a number of professional and technical staff and oversight to external project consultants.
In this role you will:
Deliver on transit, LRT, active mode, and roadway improvement projects on time and budget and ensure they are aligned with the City’s strategic goals and fit with the operational constraints for the City
Work with business partners to plan and design transportation projects, and to support the delivery of capital infrastructure projects
Lead, mentor and build a team of professionals that work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to produce integrated solutions
Engage and communicate with the public to gather input to shape transportation infrastructure projects and to effectively convey the City’s messages
Develop and maintain strong business relationships with business partners and stakeholders to realize desired outcomes
Lead through a changing environment and guide your team through the change process
Maintain communication with business partners, leadership, and key stakeholders on project status, issues and milestones
Provide a staffing structure to fit increasing demands and share in the administration of an annual operating budget
Note: There is one General Supervisor, Transportation Planning and Design - Project Management role available.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (preferably Civil), with additional coursework in the areas of roadways design, transportation engineering/planning, transit and land use. Master’s degree considered an asset
Professional Engineer (P.Eng) registered with or eligible to register with APEGA
Proven 8+ years of progressively responsible experience managing and motivating project teams, diverse workforces, or dealing with labour relations and Unions
Proven ability to balance and manage unique competing interests and responsibilities among stakeholders and clients while ensuring high quality performance outcomes
Extensive and demonstrable public engagement experience working with the public and stakeholders
Excellent public speaking and written communication skills. Ability to negotiate and convey department opinion with tact and in a clear and concise manner. Effective Project Management skills including ability to establish and direct project teams in a political environment
Demonstrated planning and organizational skills to manage program delivery, financial and human resources to achieve deliverables
Demonstrated ability to think critically, see opportunities and advance improvements through to implementation
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with Public and Council and effectively respond to their inquiries
