The candidate will conduct a syntheses and metaanalysis for corn stover management data located with the existing databases, and from literature to establish scientifically based guidelines of what mass of corn stover may be harvested without impacting SOC stocks and conversely, the potential increase in SOC stocks that could be credited for retaining corn stover. This analysis will be used identify most effective management practice(s) for stover harvest that are appropriate for a given regional and edaphic site characteristics, to maintain or increase soil carbon stocks. Analysis is expected to result in peer-reviewed publications.
This program , administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an inter-agency agreement between DOE and ARS.

Participants do not become employees of USDA, ARS, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment related benefits.

Must have PhD.
Prefer courses, training or experience in the following: Meta analysis, statistical programming in SAS, R, GIS knowledge experience useful, data mining, database development and a strong background in statistics, soil science or agronomic knowledge useful. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English essential.
Additional Salary Information: The initial appointment is full-time for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of ARS and is contingent on the availability of funds. Allowance toward health insurance negotiable.
