The INM-6, Computational and Systems Neuroscience, develops mathematical models of the dynamics and function of neural circuits. These include model-driven analysis of brain activity and structure, and the simulation of biologically realistic models. The subinstitute is also part of the Institute of Advanced Simulation (IAS-6, Theoretical Neuroscience) and hosts the coordination office (BCOS) of the national Bernstein Network Computational Neuroscience. The INM-6 is strongly involved in the EU flagship project "Human Brain Project" (HBP, https://www.humanbrainproject.eu/) and leads several work packages in the subproject Theoretical Neuroscience as well as in the platforms Neuroinformatics, Brain Simulation and High-Performance Analytics and Computing. Together with its partners, the INM-6 develops leading codes for simulation (http://www.nest-initiative.org/) and data analysis (https://python-elephant.org) on the brain scale with the resolution of individual nerve cells in an open source approach.
The department Statistical Neuroscience develops statistical methods for the analysis of experimental electrophysiological data from massively parallel electrophysiological recordings and leads the development of open source software tools for the analysis of activity data and validation of models on the population level. The department aims to fill a postdoctoral position that is responsible for the execution of projects within the subproject WP4.5 "Linking Model Activity and Function to Experimental Data" and the HBP High-Level Support Team (WP5.9) of the EU flagship project Human Brain Project (HBP).

Postdoc in Computational and Systems Neuroscience
Development, optimization and adaptation of conceptual strategies and concrete implementations for the validation of different model implementations and for the comparison of experimental and simulated activity data
Further development of methods for the analysis of neuronal multichannel data from experiment and simulation, with a focus on interactions between cortical areas in the context of visuo-motor-integration
Development of methods for quantifying the relationships between data on different spatiotemporal scales (spikes, LFP, ECoG)
Support and development of workflows for data analysis and model validation within the framework of the infrastructure of the Human Brain Project (HBP)
Creation or adaptation and implementation of software in Python
Integration of the codes into the shared analysis library Elephant of the HBP, coordinated at INM-6
Cooperation with experimental collaboration partners and software engineers
Close cooperation with the project partners within the framework of the HBP
Presentation of project results at international conferences
Regular organization and participation in project meetings and video conferences for project management
Scientific and administrative project coordination
Support in the preparation of scientific project reports
Support in the supervision of PhD students
University degree in physics, mathematics or computer science
A completed doctorate in computational neuroscience, applied mathematics, computational neuroscience, physics or a related subject
Detailed knowledge of neuroscientific concepts, especially in neuronal dynamics, statistical analysis of neuronal activity and dynamics, and expertise in mathematical models of neuronal networks
Expertise in network modelling at different spatial levels
Experience with large-scale data-science activities
Experience in scientific programming, especially Python; basic knowledge in C++ and higher programming languages for scientific computations, e.g. Matlab
Very good ability to cooperate in an interdisciplinary international working environment
Ability to approach tasks with efficiency and reproducibility in mind
Fluent in spoken and written English
Experience in scientific publishing in a related field (proven by a corresponding list of publications)
