This position is responsible for providing ongoing counseling to birth parents and families with unplanned pregnancies; the objective being to first protect the life of the unborn and to then provide ongoing support and resources while helping to plan for the child’s and birth parent’s futures.
Pregnancy Counseling is at the heart of everything we stand for at Bethany Christian Services. Our Pregnancy Counselors establish relationships with community partners, hospitals, churches and other health services agencies in the area to provide support to women who find themselves in a situation with an unplanned pregnancy. Our Pregnancy Counselors provide options and information to expectant parents, including referrals to support parenting and support and resources to parents considering adoption. This job includes regular outreach to client referral sources as well as the provision of excellent counsel and encouragement to our expectant parents.

Promote Bethany’s pregnancy counseling through contacts with crisis pregnancy centers and provide adoption training to local pregnancy and hospitals, speaking engagements at high schools and colleges, and distribution of service brochures to referral services, i.e. doctors, hospitals, etc.
Respond to telephone intakes and provide assessment for clients facing an unplanned pregnancy.
Schedule appointments and provide direct service to women and involved family members (birth father, birth grandparents).
Arrange for alternative living arrangements when necessary through contact with maternity homes, shelters, or transitional homes.
Develop and coordinate Bethany’s relationships with area hospitals and referral agencies for support services to birth parents.
Provide decision making counseling that allows clients to be well informed when making a decision about an unplanned pregnancy.
Present adoption as a positive and viable option and, should adoption be chosen, provide ongoing counseling as needed including grief and loss counseling.
Assist in adoption planning and legal release of child.
Oversee interim care families and the care of children in interim care homes, including application for state medical assistance.
Organize and manage time so all reports and documents are completed in a timely fashion.
Attend pregnancy counseling training as needed and apply newly gained knowledge in providing service.
Facilitate support groups and provide support to parents who have made an adoptive placement as needed.
Maintain compliance with all state guidelines and COA standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MSW or equivalent Master’s degree.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW or LICSW or LMFT)
Demonstrate excellent clinical and assessment skills.
Computer skills sufficient to perform essential functions.
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
