This position promotes the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of Easterseals and works to achieve the strategic goals and objectives of the Finance Department. The Accounting Manager is responsible for management of the functional accounting areas of the Finance Department, including but not limited to monitoring accounting practices, program budget development, financial reporting, program support, adherence to internal controls and building a strong financial team. The Accounting Manager performs analyses and provide information to the Controller as requested, interfaces with funding bodies, bankers, auditors and other regulatory bodies as required.
Manage the work flow of the Finance Department.
Coordinate cross training to improve efficiency and smooth operations.
Prepare individual program budgets as needed and assist with preparation of the Agency budget annually. Prepare budget amendments as needed.
Review budget/actual financial reports with Accountants and program management as needed.
Assist with resource management in individual programs.
Prepare fiscal projections based upon the requests of Program Managers or senior leadership.
Review and approve documentation to support processing of accounts payable checks.
Approve adjusting journal entries to the general ledger.
Manage treatment of capital assets in the financial records.
Prepare schedules and work papers as required for multiple audits.
Collaborate with Human Resources and other departments to ensure smooth communications and services to programs and funders.
Monitor compliance with department and Easterseals policy and procedures and recommend revisions as appropriate.
Adhere to established quality and performance improvement standards.
Provide input on management/supervisory issues and support and implements senior leadership decisions.
Assure department adherence to administrative policies and procedures.
Set performance expectations of the Finance Department and direct reports. Supervise staff which includes mentoring, coaching, training, and administering disciplinary actions as necessary in keeping with Human Resources policies and procedures.
Delegate by allocating decision making and other responsibilities appropriately and effectively.
Give performance review on time and take an active role in the development of direct reports. Organize work, establish priorities, make proper assignments of human resources, and efficient allocation of resources.
Ensure customer satisfaction by monitoring, developing, improving, and delivering excellent services.
Comply with contractual and regulatory requirements.
All other duties as assigned.
BA or BS in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
Five years progressive management experience in a nonprofit organization.
Experience as Accounting Manager or equivalent in a nonprofit organization with a budget over $10 million.
Must have good working knowledge of general ledger software (generic), as well as Excel, Microsoft Word, Access, Power Point.
Extensive knowledge of Sage/MIP software preferred.
Grant accounting experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of audit, finance, budgeting, purchasing, business operations and nonprofit industry.
Valid driver’s license.
