Reporting to the Head of School and serving on the Head's Administrative Team, the Director of Development plays an integral role in ensuring that the School achieves its annual and long-range financial goals. The Director is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy through annual, capital and planned giving, alumni/ae programming and parent philanthropy. With a staff of six supervisees, the Director will oversee all aspects of the Development Office and plan the launch of the next phase of a capital campaign while modelling our Quaker values.
Educate the Friends' Central School community (parents, faculty, alumni/ae and administrators) on the importance of philanthropy and its role in helping the School achieve its goals.
Manage all aspects of a comprehensive fundraising program including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving and EITC/OSTC.
Assess the fundraising potential of the School and prepare to launch the next phase of a capital campaign.
Oversee overall Development Office operations, including gift accounting and acknowledgement, pledge creation, financial records, computer system operations, donor stewardship and reconciliation of records with the Business Office.
Supervise a staff of six (presently four full-time and two part-time), including annual performance reviews and continual refinement of roles for each member.
Guide and support Development staff, senior staff, the Board Development Committee, board members and other volunteers to work cohesively and collaboratively to achieve agreed-upon fundraising goals.
Utilize key leadership's time and talents appropriately with respect to cultivation, solicitation and stewardship efforts.
Manage a portfolio of major gifts prospects and donors and ensure that timely steps are taken toward cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
Support the Development work of the Head of School.
Serve on the Head's Administrative Team and as liaison to the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Initiatives on all development-related communications/marketing activities, including print, electronic and video publications.
Oversee the plan for alumni/ae and parent cultivation and oversee all alumni/ae relations programming.
Collaborate with Admissions regarding alumni/ae applications and accepted parent research and relations
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head of School.

Ten (10) or more years of experience in managing institutional development programs, budgets and personnel, in an independent school or an institution of higher education.
Substantial experience formulating and executing a successful fundraising plan, and strategic planning and management of at least one large-scale capital campaign.
Proven track record in cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major and planned gifts.
Broad-based knowledge of development and best practices in not-for-profit fundraising.
Strong management skills, both strategic and operational, and a demonstrated ability to build, manage, mentor and motivate an effective team.
Ability to work effectively as a senior member of the Head's administrative team, as well as collaborate with fellow administrators, faculty, staff, parents, board members, other fundraising volunteers, and financial and legal advisors of potential donors.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to work well with both internal and external constituencies, effectively representing the School.
Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, expressing the School's mission and fundraising goals with clarity, passion and persuasion.
Comfort with public speaking and presentations.
Working knowledge of information systems for the development office.
A high degree of professionalism, sound judgment, awareness, and discretion while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
