A Plan Review Engineer is being sought to join the Department of Transportation & Utilities for the City of Portage. This is a professional position that coordinates and implements engineering activities, technical designs, project research and plan review for development projects. This position requires strong written, verbal and organizational skills to be effective. This position is responsible for reviewing site plans, plats and other private developments; processing permits through the appropriate governmental departments for water and sewer construction; drafting and reviewing documents relating to all phases of public works, including subdivision and utilities ordinances and regulations; performing storm water and soil erosion reviews; reviewing proposal/plans to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects, designs and specifications for construction projects; assisting in the preparation of specifications and requests for proposals on transportation and utility construction projects; conferring with consultants and contractors to outline a work plan and to coordinate record keeping, scheduling, preparation of pay estimates, surveying and final inspection of all projects before acceptance; coordinating warranty inspections when required; reviewing status reports prepared by contractors and modifying schedules or plans as required; assisting in the preparation of capital improvement plan, estimates, preliminary designs and schedules; performing engineering tasks and project management on assigned development or other city projects as assigned.
A Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in civil engineering or related field is required. A minimum of two years of civil engineering experience and/or training in construction, public works and/or public infrastructure is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification with the ability to acquire PE License under the laws of the State of Michigan within two years of date of hire.
