South Central Indiana REMC (SCI REMC) is a not-for-profit electric distribution, member-owned cooperative and has an immediate opening in the wholly owned subsidiary, SCI Services, LLC for the Manager of Vegetation Management department. The cooperative is a technology leader in electric distribution systems and is headquartered in a new and progressive facility in Martinsville, Indiana. SCI REMC has a unique business model which includes a vegetation management team focused on clearing right-of-ways (ROW) for SCI. The team members in the Vegetation Management Department include three superintendents, three notification specialists and about 38 well-trained and certificated tree trimming, ROW clearing technicians.
SCI REMC serves seven counties including Morgan, Monroe, Owen, Brown, Johnson, Putnam and Clay with over 3,542 miles of energized lines and 33,549 meters serving 28,007 members. General Responsibilities for this position include:
- managing and leading the safe clearing and re-clearing of existing right-of-way of the REMC in conformity with established standards;
- stimulating a high standard of morale among the team members of the department and aligning team member engagement with the organization’s goals;
- developing and promoting the required adherence to all established safety rules and regulations and practices;
- using opportunities to develop member support, understanding and acceptance of activities of the Distribution Services Department as they pertain to membership.

Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Must possess and maintain an ISA Certified Arborist certification.
Minimum of five years’ experience in utility line clearance supervision, with at least two of those years as a certified arborist. Must have demonstrated ability to lead a complex team in a professional, transparent manner. Experience in a rural electric system is preferred.
Must be capable of leading the clearing and re-clearing of existing right-of-way of the REMC in conformity with established standards and ensure a high level of team member engagement and morale.
Must be able to supervise and to develop and promote the required adherence by the Vegetation Management section to all established safety rules, regulations, and practices.
Must be able to help develop long-range plans for the Vegetation Management section in terms of programs, budget, personnel, facilities, equipment, and supplies.
Must develop procedures and practices for more efficient and economical clearing and re-clearing of right-of-way.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management, team members, members, contractors, personnel from other organizations, and the general public.
Must be able to work effectively on a daily basis with a variety of individuals.
Must be able to demonstrate a high level of ethics while overseeing the purchases and selecting suppliers for the department.
Must be able to walk and drive on rough terrain and work outside in all types of weather.
Must be regular in work attendance and available to assist during storm work, as needed.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
