This opportunity is for an Executive with integrity, strong leadership traits, excellent communication and people skills, who promotes transparency, builds trust and thrives in a collaborative team environment.
The candidate should have a proven track record of leadership, successful management with strong business and negotiation skills and a minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience at the senior management level in the electric utility industry. Cooperative experience is a plus, a demonstrated understanding of the 7 Cooperative Principles is a must. Knowledge in the areas of power supply, operations and financial systems, strategic planning, board relations and rate issues is required. Broadband experience is a plus. The ability to manage multiple types of businesses is essential. A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field is required.
Valley Electric Association, Inc. is a member-owned electric cooperative with 130 employees headquartered in Pahrump, Nevada. VEA provides electric services to more than 24,000 meters and broadband services to over 10,000 accounts within a vast 6,800-square-mile service area located primarily along the California-Nevada border, with the majority in Nevada. Residential members are the Co-op’s largest single consumer group. VEA serves high-profile federal government facilities in Nevada, including the Nevada National Security Site and Creech Air Force Base. Therefore, the CEO must pass government security clearance requirements. VEA is a participating transmission owner and load serving entity in the California Independent System of Operators Corporation (CAISO).
Pahrump Nevada is located in the southeast corner of Nye County, 60 miles west of Las Vegas and just a few short hours from southern California which includes Disneyland, SeaWorld, and Death Valley. Pahrump has a population of 35,000. Activities include golfing, wine tasting, racing sports, hunting, hiking, fishing, skiing and numerous outdoor activities.
