The Engineering and Facilities staff is responsible for the development and on-going maintenance of Metro Transit's public and support facilities. In the public facilities area, we plan, design, construct and maintain park and rides, passenger shelters, and transit centers. We perform similar services relative to our support facilities. Support facilities include Metro Transit's buildings and grounds such as our bus garages and offices.
How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:
The Assistant Director of Engineering and Construction provides management oversight and leadership relative to the design and construction of all capital and public facility projects such as major construction and renovation of bus and rail operating facilities, park and ride, turnarounds and other operating locations, Additionally, this position is held accountable for the monitoring and efficient execution of assigned capital and operating budgets within the Engineering department.
WHAT YOU WOULD DO IN THIS JOB:
Manage, directs, leads and coaches the Engineering and Construction staff (specifically direct reports) in the preparation and execution of department goals, the staff's level of activity, its creation and execution of operating and capital budgets and its responses to internal and external customers and stakeholders.
Coordinate work unit activities with other departments impacted by public facilities and support facilities activities and projects.
Develop, maintain, implement and enforce design and construction work instructions and standards by which all Metro Transit Engineering and Construction work is to abide.
Supervise the development, selection, and administration of professional and engineering services consultant contracts.
Manage the design and construction of all transit related projects developed by the Engineering and Construction group; including oversight of pre-commissioning and post commissioning activities.
Develop, investigate, evaluate and implement programs and direct activities related to capital improvements of existing facilities, energy consumption, conservation and management and emergency actions related to existing transit-related facilities.
Implement Metro Transit's multi-year Capital Facilities Improvement Plan. Assist in updating annually, communicating the plan and objectives to the appropriate level of management.
Assure that bidding, quotations, awards and contract administration are carried out properly for facilities, related equipment and consultant contracts.
Supervise Metro Transit activities in support of the acquisition of real estate/land rights associated with capital and public facilities; in collaboration with Metropolitan Council's Real Estate department.
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Environmental), Construction Management, Architecture, Business Administration or related area AND eight (8) years of experience in one of the following areas of project management: design and installation of office buildings and/or facilities; transit or transportation projects; construction management projects; or contract administration or related field, including five (5) years of supervisory experience.
A Master's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Business Administration or related area AND six (6) years of related experience in one of the following areas of project management: design and installation of office buildings and/or facilities; transit or transportation projects; construction management projects; or contract administration or related field, including five (5) years of supervisory experience.
Additional Salary Information: Salary range is between $99,486 to $141,107.
