Professor of the Practice Position in Space Systems Engineering
The SIBLEY SCHOOL OF MECHANICAL AND AEROSPACE ENGINEERING and SYSTEMS ENGINEERING program at Cornell University invite applications for a Professor of the Practice position in the area of Space Systems Engineering. Applicants should be highly experienced individuals in a relevant field of professional practice. They must exhibit strong promise for excellence in developing courses and in teaching and should have an advanced degree in a related field. While teaching is the primary responsibility, faculty of this rank have the opportunity to engage in additional research, service, and outreach activities. This is a 12 month, full-time, non-tenure track position in Ithaca, NY, renewable every three to five years.
This position will be a key element of the Sibley School’s strategy in Aerospace Engineering for the coming decades. Building upon its history of groundbreaking space-technology research, the school seeks a faculty member with a passion for innovative teaching and research in NewSpace, Commercial Space, and advanced human-space applications from a systems-engineering perspective. This faculty member will help lead the development of, and teach, practice-oriented courses for both on-campus and professional distance-learning students, grow relationships with industry, and supervise student projects.
Minimal requirements include work experience in space technology and familiarity with contemporary systems-engineering practice sufficient to teach one or more of the currently offered courses in the Systems Engineering program. The successful candidate will have a broad background in space systems with depth in one or more of the following areas: spacecraft systems engineering and architecture, model-based systems engineering, systems analysis and optimization, human spaceflight, global navigation satellite systems (such as GPS), spacecraft mission operations, fundamental astrodynamics, and technology for Earth Science, Astrophysics, Heliophysics, or Planetary Science applications.
