Applewild School is starting a junior boarding program for 18 students in grades 5-9 in Fall 2020. This is a chance to build a program from the ground up, within an institution deeply committed to offering a small-scale junior boarding program of the highest caliber.
We are seeking an empathetic and organized person to carry out these following residential life mission-critical functions:
Serve on the Ed-Ad team and report directly to the Head of School, and be a visible member of the leadership team on campus and in the community
Act as primary dorm parent as well as train and supervise two adjunct dorm parents.
Serve as key point of contact for boarding parents.
Develop and lead student orientation program
Develop weekend programming
When on duty, supervise boarding students ensuring they arrive at breakfast and school on time in the morning, and return for study hall and dorm time after dinner.
Sensitively and adroitly address student life issues such as homesickness, etc.
Interface with faculty to ensure all boarding students are thriving
Serve as an exemplary role model for students as a culturally-sensitive person of character
Write policy and procedures with input from Ed-Ad team needed to run a high quality boarding program
Plan and implement a one-to-two day training retreat for dorm parents
Lead weekly res-life staff meetings to discuss matters concerning the Residential Life Program
Review staffing schedules, duty rosters, and work expectations
Assist dorm parents with goal setting
Supervise new student orientation for Residential Life students
Oversee student holiday travel
Develop and manage behavior management systems for the Residential Life Program and partner with the Upper School Division Head and Head of School in major disciplinary cases
Coordinate safety training for all dorm parents with Risk Management and Health Services
Manage a Residential Life Crisis Plan
Establish, review, and update medical and mental health support policies for Residential Life students
Coordinate the selection, training and performance of residential life student leaders
Review and update the Residential Life Handbook annually
Assign student housing
Manage residential life budgets to include supplies, activities, transportation, tutoring, professional development, and other general or specific expenses
Maintain accurate records for residential life cell phones, credit cards, and accounts.
Partner with Director of Finance and Operations to coordinate capital expenses for residential life
Network with counterparts at peer boarding schools; attend conferences
Assist the Office of Admissions in the recruitment process for prospective boarding applicants to include some domestic and international travel
Coordinate, and report maintenance needs on a timely basis to the Chief Business Officer.
Rotate on duty a third of the time and cover for other residential life staff should illnesses or other unforeseen events occur.
Be able to drive students in 15-passenger van to outings and airports as needed
The purpose of the Auxiliary Program to increase the school’s visibility with prospective full-time students and the broader community as well as to drive revenue generation. Essential duties and responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising of the personnel needed to run these programs.
The key responsibilities related to our Auxiliary Program are as follows:
Develop, market, schedule, and oversee the entire summer school/camp operation for both the main campus and the satellite campus, including academic, extra-curricular, athletic, and off-campus activities. This includes developing new programming to compliment the existing roster of offerings.
Devise and manage the registration process for prospective summer students, including responding to parent inquiries
Monitor all safety and health programs for all summer programs
Provide summer faculty and summer staff performance evaluations and feedback
Develop high quality communications with and events for the parents of the summer students
Partner with the Director of Admissions to identify and recruit qualified students for the full-year program
Supervise vacation camp program and staff
Work with the Chief Business Officer to develop a budget and to ensure auxiliary programs meets fiscal goals
Collaborate with the Director of External Affairs to create print and online marketing materials for the summer program, produce the catalog of summer program offerings, and generate enthusiasm for and promote the program’s success
Coordinate with the Chief Business Officer to arrange for summer/auxiliary program facility and/or equipment needs
Network with counterparts with peer schools; seek opportunities for professional development
-Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred
-At least 5 to 10 years of teaching and/or administrative experience in a school or youth-serving organization
-Understand and value the amazing developmental journey which our junior boarding students experience

-Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and empathetic approach
-Exceptional entrepreneurial and organizational skills
-Excellent oral and written communication skills
-Detail-oriented and able to work collaboratively
-High-energy and enthusiastic about working with a wide range of ages in an academic atmosphere
-Clean driving record, current license and insurance and the ability to clear a CORI/SORI background check.
-Physical ability to walk up steep hills with uneven terrain and stairs several times a day.
