As the Economic Development & Key Accounts Manager:
Manages the Cooperative’s economic development loan program to ensure it is effectively promoted, utilized, and reported.
Develops professional business relationships (locally, regionally, and nationally) to promote development and growth within the Cooperative service area. This includes developing and maintaining positive working relationships with economic development leaders in our region and the economic development staff at Dairyland Power Cooperative.
Researches new business possibilities or business expansions in the Cooperative’s service area. Develops and implements marketing plans to attract and retain viable businesses in order to enhance the economics of the Cooperative, individual businesses, and local communities.
Works with engineering and community leaders in conducting targeted industry analysis to determine industries compatible to area’s resources. This includes gathering community, industry, and labor information and maintaining available site and building data in order to determine project feasibility and eligibility and then to identify and recruit organizations.
Represents the Cooperative at trade shows and other industry events to help promote the Cooperative in a positive manner and support the overall goals and initiatives of the organization.
Promotes cooperative programs in the community and at professional functions. Acts as a liaison with local community and civic organizations and attends events to promote the Cooperate in a positive manner. Networks and builds positive relationships throughout the community and within the industry that will support the overall goals and initiatives of the Cooperative.
Maintain expertise in economic development by keeping abreast of legislative, governmental, and financial programs that may affect economic development efforts within the Cooperatives' service areas.
Key Account Management
Serves as the primary contact for all large commercial, agricultural, and industrial accounts to ensure the Cooperative is meeting the needs of the member.
Develops key account action plans that aid in managing the relationship with the member and to provide insight for other staff members that engage with key accounts. This includes maintaining a key contact profile database using iVUE to ensure that all employees have immediate access to relevant information about the key account.
Develops business partnerships and maintains relationships with the Cooperative’s key accounts to enhance the success of each entity and to encourage retention and expansion of businesses. This includes assisting key accounts through regularly scheduled visits and frequent communications, identifying and discussing needs and desires, educating them on Cooperative rates and programs, as well as resolving identified problems to ensure the Cooperative is meeting the needs of the member.
Regularly reports to leadership about key account management activities and initiatives. This includes identifying and communicating key account issues to the leadership team and employees.
Develops a working knowledge of key accounts’ trades and/or business operations by visiting key accounts, reading trade related materials, and attending and participating in key account industry trade shows. Forms relationships to build a network of experts which will aid in providing solutions to key account business needs.
Attends seminars, training, and conferences to maintain up-to-date knowledge of our industry, including energy efficiency, renewable energy, and new and emerging technology.
Educates key accounts on available development programs and services including but not limited to loan programs, incentive programs, special heat rates, and conservation programs to ensure the member is aware of all available programs and services.
Assists in the preparation of bid specifications, negotiations, and delivery of program services to commercial and industrial accounts to ensure their electrical service needs are met.
Establishes and maintains good working relationships with allied organizations, government officials and agencies, and other influential individuals and organizations to ensure our member’s best interest are served when making decisions.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, sales, or a related field from an accredited college or university. In lieu of degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience in utility electrical marketing, economic/business development, technical electrical/HVAC trade or related field may be considered.
EXPERIENCE: At least five years of experience in a related field. Previous experience in sales and marketing, commercial business relationships, or economic/business development preferred. Knowledge of electric utility operations is highly desirable.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must possess excellent computer knowledge, have good organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must continually keep informed of changing technology to properly perform the objectives of this position. Technical knowledge of the electrical distribution system is preferred. Knowledge of commercial, agricultural, and industrial load requirements is helpful. Must have or be able to develop a detailed knowledge of electrical rates, rate structure, and metering.
