WSWA is seeking a Manager for Strategic Communications to engage industry and general news media to communicate strategically on behalf of WSWA members. The Manager works with the Communications Team to find and create strategic opportunities to raise the profile of the wine and spirits wholesale industry through all media platforms including traditional press, social media, digital properties, and member-focused communications vehicles. This person creates content including press releases, opinion and editorial pieces, infographics, official letters, a variety of digital resources.This person is the managing staff lead on tool and resource kits for WSWA and its members on key issues.
Write and edit press releases, promotional materials, articles, opinion pieces, social media posts, and member communications, etc.
Help to manage and respond to media inquiries, to include subject matter expert preparation and interview facilitation
Maintain media lists
Assist with planning and executing media events
Benchmark the association against its peers and make recommendations for adopting newly- and rapidly-evolving communications tools
Provide suggestions for the development of marketing collateral materials and online communications
Assist other departments to promote awareness of their initiatives
Ensure consistent messaging throughout all WSWA communications vehicles, programs and events
3-5 years of communications and public affairs experience, specifically developing and executing media campaigns, digital and online communication strategies/programs/products.
Must enjoy and be exceptional at writing original copy, and editing. Must have exceptional attention to detail.
Passion for and extensive knowledge of social media space, including a deep and analytical understanding of how social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc. are used to deepen brand recognition and assist with both paid and earned growth.
Experience with database management and utilization in a variety of platforms such as Excel, constituent and contact database software, or custom CRM platforms.
Expertise in using Constant Contact (and/or similar services) for e-mail marketing, surveys and communications.
Familiarity with Survey Gizmo or similar electronic survey and feedback services.
Proficient with Adobe Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, Canva, and PowerPoint.
Understanding of media list creation, management and utilization.
Experience drafting media releases, pitching documents and coordinating interviews.
Must be a self-starter with energy, drive and determination to accomplish goals and demonstrated ability to multi-task, set priorities, stay focused, set clear milestones and thrive working with others.
Familiarity with the trade association and political environments.
Knowledge of the beverage-alcohol or hospitality industry.
Basic understanding of SEO as it relates to websites, videos and blogs.
Basic photography and videography skills in a corporate setting.
Experience with trade associations.
