The Board of Trustees of Butler Rural Electric Cooperative is seeking a forward thinking and engaged leader with proven strategic ability to succeed the current long serving General Manager (GM) who will retire in April 2020. Butler REC has retained NRECA’s Executive Search Group to facilitate the search process.
Founded in 1936, Butler Rural Electric Cooperative was built by the communities that they serve. The co-op was shaped over time to meet the specific needs of their consumer-members, and today, they continue to provide the affordable, reliable, safe energy their local communities depend on.
Butler Rural Electric Cooperative provides electricity to 11,601 meters in Butler, Hamilton, Preble and Montgomery counties over 1,066 miles of line with 49 employees. The cooperative receives wholesale power from Buckeye Power and has an annual revenue of $32 million.
Successful GM candidates will have a strong background in working in an electric distribution cooperative environment, with a particular focus on safety and financial issues. The ability to lead change, build teams and develop employees in addition to demonstrated leadership skills are key attributes.
Candidates are required to have, at a minimum, 3-5 years at an electric utility with a minimum of 6 years of overall leadership experience. A bachelor’s degree in business administration, electrical engineering, accounting and finance, or related degree is preferred and an MBA is a plus.
Candidates should have broad electric utility management experience and knowledge that includes such areas as accounting and finance; operations and safety; team building, and external leadership. Cooperative Experience, Broadband and Renewable Energy knowledge would be helpful.
