One of the nation’s largest and most progressive electric distribution cooperatives located in Fredericksburg, Virginia, is seeking a highly skilled professional to join its strategic management team.
The ideal candidates will have technical expertise in electric utility strategy, clean energy and distributed energy resources, smart energy systems/programs, communications systems including fiber optics and information technology. Must have an understanding of Cooperative strategic planning process resulting in business strategy and plans. Candidate will be able to ensure cohesiveness of technology vision with corporate strategy. Must possess a knowledge of the Cooperative business model and national cooperative organizations. Must have the ability to evaluate technology investments. Must be capable of successfully leading utility business initiatives that engage diverse consumer needs and interests, as well as related competitive programs. Must have the ability to research and analyze trends to identify areas of improvement and opportunity.
Must have demonstrated management and leadership abilities. Must be a strategic planner with the ability to execute plans. Ideal candidate should be able to collaborate with Board of Directors, executive management, and senior leadership teams. Must be able to communicate effectively both inside and outside of the organization.
This position is based in the Fredericksburg office, with regular travel to the Cooperative’s other locations, partnering cooperatives, associations, and organizations. Involvement in emergency response events may be required. Out of town travel to seminars and conferences can also be expected. Person will work with and report to the President/CEO.
Qualified candidate may possess an advanced degree in a related field preferred. Bachelor’s degree is required. The ideal candidate will have work experience at a senior management level within a regulated business with a focus on technology system planning and deployment required. Must possess 10 years of progressively responsible experience with 5 years functional senior management and be knowledgeable of corporate strategy/planning, strategic energy partnerships, technological planning and advancement, strategy execution, process improvement, consumer energy programs, as well as data and analytics. Candidate must have experience developing and executing complex business initiatives with technology emphasis. Demonstrated experience authoring, securing and leading administration of federal, state, and other competitive energy-focused grants. Experience acquiring, developing, and analyzing business intelligence from relatable organizations. Candidate will be able to ensure cohesiveness of technology vision with corporate strategy. Must have experience working with Boards of Directors. Executive leadership experience with an electric utility cooperative is preferred.

The Cooperative was formed in 1980 after the consolidation of two cooperatives, Virginia Electric Cooperative in Bowling Green and Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative in Culpeper. REC operates and maintains more than 17,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. The Cooperative is guided by a board of directors, also member-owners of REC, and who are elected by REC's other members during the annual meeting. Directors serve three-year terms.
