This role will be responsible for managing collaborative investor engagement with Asian companies in priority sectors including but not limited to utilities, agriculture and forestry and the banking sector. This will include developing and delivering investor expectation papers, webinars and meetings, and responding to investor research or engagement needs. The role will also be a key member of global strategic projects and working groups in support of investor initiatives to drive the transition to zero carbon economies in key Asian markets including Japan, South Korea and others on a needs basis. The role reports to the Director, AIGCC.
Specific duties include:
Assess and identify the research and insights requirements to support company engagements in the Asian region, based on investor feedback.
Develop and deliver a program of work including:
Prepatory research to underpin the development of an investor expectations guide for Asian utilities companies, drawing on analysis from data providers, investor networks, think tanks and relevant NGOs;
Investor outreach and regular briefings and/or webinars on key topics to build the capacity of investor members to participate in collaborative engagement in key sectors;
Outsourcing the development of materials to external research providers to conduct bespoke research and produce reports as required on specific topics;
Development and delivery of a coordinated engagement strategy and investor platform targeting key companies in priority sectors; and
Analysis of policy engagement opportunities for investors in key markets to support targeted sectoral interventions related to national energy, climate or financial market policies and regulations.
Management of relationships with data providers, investor members and other key stakeholders as required to deliver the research and engagement needs of AIGCC.
Participation within company engagement groups where appropriate, to deliver insights and contribute to priority setting and evaluation of company performance.
Represent AIGCC on selected global strategic projects and working groups as required to deliver or support major research, sector strategies and policy/investor practice projects.
Contribute to systems for documenting activities.
Actively contribute subject matter expertise to the monthly AIGCC members meeting and other AIGCC working groups as appropriate.
Collaborate with other AIGCC initiatives as required.
Qualifications and experience
Degree in a relevant area - ideally finance, economics and/or environment.
At least 5 years of work experience in investment and equities analysis, ESG, shareholder engagement, or corporate sustainability. Experience in working in sectors including oil and gas, electric utilities, land sector, or financial services companies would be highly regarded.
Interest and experience in corporate climate performance including governance, engagement, emissions reduction targets and disclosure.
Experience delivering high-quality reports and briefing papers for external stakeholders that draw on significant qualitative and quantitative research.
Fluency in an Asian language (Japanese, Chinese, Korean) preferred
Experience in relationship management and coordinating with partners and/or consultants to deliver a project outcome.
Ability to evaluate workload and prioritise projects in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
Strong organisational, project management, writing, verbal communication and interpersonal and skills.
Able to direct and manage multiple projects at the same time.
Able to work well independently and as a team member.
Comfortable working with different personalities and people.
Desire to work in a mission-driven and non-profit environment.
This is a full-time 12-month contract position with possibility for extension. This role is based in a major Asian financial centre, with additional regional travel as required. Note: some of the global working groups require attendance at meetings and calls outside of standard business hours
