As a college counselor, you will be a key part of our team. We wear a lot of hats (higher ed experts; grammar gurus; even life coaches!) and your passion for the college admissions process will contribute to our success in advising families and delivering high-touch tailored solutions. You will counsel students and their parents on every aspect of the admissions process – from selecting high school coursework to reviewing applications and everything in between! You will serve as the right hand to the CEO and work with an engaging, close-knit, yet dispersed team.
After providing students and families with a warm welcome and glimpse into what we do and how we help, you will hold regular meetings to support students with strategies that complement their individualized personalities, learning styles, and future goals. You will partner with families that have students in grades 8-12; on the younger end of that range, your primary responsibilities will include helping students discover their interests on a deeper scale while maximizing their high school experience. For our juniors and seniors, you will use your expert knowledge to provide extensive assistance with the college search and application process. You’ll even learn more about DC College Counseling’s proprietary processes and methods for “17-year-old-perfect” applications, which have been adopted by hundreds of other college counselors and educational organizations throughout the world. After helping students prepare, proofread and edit their materials, you will remain actively involved as a cheerleader and source of emotional support until acceptances are in hand!
As you can imagine, you’ll prepare documents and correspondence that will require extreme attention to detail. There will also be some day-to-day maintenance of items such as handbooks, guides, and other materials coupled with research, calls with colleagues on “the other side of the desk,” and campus visits. You will even have the opportunity to provide support in developing and executing social media marketing campaigns. With a number of special projects, events, meetings, and conferences, you’ll often be in the driver's seat when it comes to organization and logistics. You will assist in the creation of communications to a variety of our stakeholders including current and former clients, extended team members, and our Washington, D.C. metropolitan area communities. Most importantly, you will make an impact every day by coaching students to their highest potential.

We realize everyone has a life outside of work and offer flexibility in setting a schedule that not only works for us, but also works for you. On days you are in our cheerfully renovated and snack-stocked office, you’ll work into the evening; however, you will have the ability to work remotely about 40% of the time for roughly 9 months of the year!
