Octopus Labs is the technology unit of the Octopus Group. OUR TECH STACK: At Octopus Labs we're building a suite of micro-services hosted on Google App Engine or Kubernetes. We're rewriting our legacy frontend tech-stack of CoffeeScript, jQuery and Gulp to a more modern Webpack, React and Redux package. Our frontend code sits on top of a Python and MySQL backend. Some of our projects are hosted on Google App Engine others are in Kubernetes. CI/CD is managed by Jenkins. We are continually assessing our tech stack and welcome ideas around new ways of working and technologies that improve efficiency.
We are looking for a Senior front-end developer who is experienced in microservices based distributed architecture. You will be a key member of the development team and will take ownership of dev tasks and features for the Octopus Products as assigned by the team lead. Under the guidance of a Tech Lead you will be responsible for investigating solutions, leading on implementing best practice, adhering to secure coding standards, and continuously raising the bar on the quality and scalability of our products and technology. As part of our dynamic full stack agile team you will have a collaborative can-do attitude, sharing your knowledge with other team members both formally and informally and contributing to continuously improving our business. We follow agile development practices, and you will be someone who is comfortable with change and embraces new ideas and technologies.
Work as part of a delivery team, collaborating with others to understand requirements, analyse user stories, design scalable solutions and develop secure and effective code.
Develop frontend application using React and help us to implement best practice and continuously improve the quality of our products.
You will lead Component-based UI architecture using React and Redux.
Write frontend unit tests.
Run lighthouse audits to benchmark and improve existing systems.
Implement security and data protection solutions as agreed in the roadmap.
Define and evolve the architecture of the components you are working on. Contribute to architectural decisions.
Developing reusable UI components and optimise for responsiveness and overall performance.
Extensive experience and good knowledge of React and Redux
Experience in managing full lifecycle of reusable UI components
Experience of consuming RESTful services
You know how to use Webpack and deploy front-end applications on cloud
Experience writing frontend unit tests (we use Jest and Enzyme)
A good understanding of HTML, CSS and Sass
Experience of using containers i.e. Docker
Understanding of Agile principle and practising Scrum, Kanban or XP
