As a member of the Business Analytics & Administration team in our American Funds Service Group (AFSG), you will have a broad scope of responsibilities, interactions, and complex assignments related to managing and facilitating key processes, including strategic and business planning, financial management, business management, and Capital Group (CG) relationships to effectively administer and influence the management of the assigned business unit(s). To be successful in this role, you will leverage inter-departmental relationships, influence strategic and operational decision-making through a combination of information, analysis, and experience. The Business Planning & Operations Senior Manager can be based out of our Southern California office (Irvine or Los Angeles), San Antonio, TX or Carmel, IN, and reports to the Business Management Director.
What you’ll do:
You will facilitate and manage the strategic and annual business planning processes for the assigned business unit
Provide leadership in the development of strategic plans. Manage the long-term direction and goal/priority setting process. Ensure alignment of the business unit’s broad strategies and other business unit initiatives.
Manage the annual objective setting process and outline the specific near-term objectives/initiatives to support the strategic plan.
Continuously and actively monitor and report on the progress of the strategy against business plans.
You will provide guidance and oversight to long-range business volume planning and staffing forecast and ensures adherence to management requirements
Coordinate and facilitate the planning, creation, and monitoring of the business unit budget.
Partner with the Line of Business senior leadership team, Global Finance and Project Office, on business forecasts, resource planning, budgets, and financial reporting packages.
Facilitate the dissemination, discussion, and understanding of the business unit’s financial information.
Participate in (or may lead) processes for establishing, monitoring, and managing the fees for the business unit, in conjunction with other appropriate Capital Group governance structure.
You will establish and manage key administrative, oversight, and communication processes that enable effective and efficient management of the business
Ensure business unit operating and finance committee and/or senior business leaders are addressing key issues affecting the business in the near- and long-term.
Manage, prioritize, and facilitate the appropriate use of information, measurement, and analytics in business unit decision processes.
Champion a continuous improvement culture within the business unit.
Ensure business plan initiatives have appropriate prioritization, sponsorship, planning, resourcing, and feedback mechanisms. May manage business unit initiatives related to demand management, organizational design, and change management communication initiatives.
You will facilitate and coordinate the relationships and collaboration with other CG business units and shared service units to maximize the opportunities in CG’s enterprise model
Promote and build strong working relationships through effective personal and business communication methods and programs.
Create and foster sustained relationships within and across business units.
What we’re looking for:
You have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; a CPA and/or MBA is a plus.
You have 7+ years of experience in business management, strategic planning and/or project management.
You take initiative by identifying issues and recommending solutions on complex and broad matters.
You demonstrate sound judgment in resolving matters of high complexity.
You demonstrate intellectual curiosity and analytical skills in areas of high complexity, ambiguity and diversity.
You can effectively plan and manage the work of a broad business area to achieve results consistent with broad business objectives.
You have strong written and oral communication skills with a diverse group of associates and senior business leaders.
You enjoy collaborating, developing and maintaining relationships.
You are effective in leading/facilitating with senior business leaders on broad and/or controversial topics inside and outside the organization.
You demonstrate the ability to plan processes and work across broad, diverse groups to assure work is completed in a timely manner.
You have extensive knowledge in current and possible internal and external future policies, practices, trends, technology and information affecting the department/business area and overall organization.
