95,000 meters representing more than 250,000 customers including 17 franchise cities and 6 counties. Surrounding Denver on three sides, United Power serves 900 square miles along the north central range of the Colorado Rockies. Their service territory wraps around the north and west borders of Denver International Airport, and includes the north metropolitan development corridors, including Interstate 25, Interstate 76, State Highway 85, and E-470 providing electric service to homes and businesses throughout Colorado’s northern front range. The service territory extends from the mountains of Coal Creek and Golden Gate Canyon, along the I-25 corridor and Carbon Valley region, to the farmlands of Brighton, Hudson and Keenesburg. United Power has 183 employees, 3 office locations, over 6,300 miles of line and projected 2020 revenue of over 300 million dollars.
The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to cooperative principles and to the core values of innovation, accountability, commitment to the community, and integrity to serve the energy needs of our members today and in the future.
The successful candidate must have excellent people skills, a history of demonstrated leadership and the ability to work effectively with the board. The capacity to think strategically while promoting cohesion and team building within the staff is paramount. The board expects the CEO to be able to establish relationships with the capability to impact and influence others, both within the cooperative, business arena and community.
Keeping abreast of all pending and current industry changes and legislative issues impacting the cooperative in order to purposefully plan is vital. Ten years of related utility management experience, preferably in a rural electric environment, is required. They must have a strong business acumen, management, team building and supervisory experience at the senior management level. Knowledge in the areas of financial management, power generation, purchase power agreements, renewable energy, Smart Grid technologies, transmission, distribution planning, strategic planning, board relations, rate structure, legislative issues and member relations is required. A high level of education and experience is expected.
The cooperative is a member of the Colorado REA (CREA), Tri-State G&T Assoc. and is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
The cooperative headquarters is in Brighton, Colorado, just 14 miles northeast of Denver with a population over 40,000. Brighton provides one of the lowest costs of living in the metro area with excellent schools and a great place for families. Denver offers professional sports, cultural events, shopping, and many outdoor activities.
