Mission: The Hudson School provides intellectually inquisitive students in grades 5-12 with a rigorous and relevant college-preparatory education that inspires independent thinking and intellectual risk-taking. Our goal is to develop compassionate, responsible, principled citizens who are socially conscious and committed to lifelong learning, academic scholarship, and service. The Director of Admissions is a crucial member of the Administrative and Advancement Teams. The DoA oversees all admissions and enrollment programs. An expert communicator, the Director of Admissions works with a variety of constituencies and is an authentic, astute, and capable relationship builder. The DoA reports to the Admissions Committee, composed of the Head of School, Assistant Head of School for Administration, and Director of Advancement.
This is a full-time, 12-month position that begins within two weeks of an offer and sometimes requires evening and weekend responsibilities.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Coordinate closely with the Advancement team on a heightened and creative outreach strategy to forge essential relationships with feeder schools and organizations as well as a variety of other regional communities
Create deep connections with prospective families through critical, first impression activities including in-person and virtual tours and initial conversations
Provide prospective family support via careful, deliberative follow-up
Process applications through to committee stage and acceptance
Participate in and help to coordinate virtual, after-school, evening, and weekend admission events and fairs
Assess retention rates and strategies
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
A successful candidate will possess the following characteristics and experiences:
Independent school admissions or advancement experience
Passion for working closely with students and parents
Strong technology and database management skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills
A collaborative, collegial, and creative nature with energy and drive and ease in sharing joy
Ability to be a good listener with appropriate interviewing skills for a variety of ages
Appreciation of what is needed to support a diverse school community

Since our inception, we have been committed to a need-blind admission policy. The Hudson School accepts students from diverse economic and ethnic backgrounds based on their academic promise and intellectual curiosity, rather than their financial ability. We began with 18 middle school students in 1978 (of whom 12 received scholarships through the generosity of the Geraldine Dodge Foundation) and now include 190 students in grades 5 – 12. We continue to admit every qualified student for whom we have room and do whatever we can to help that child’s family meet the costs of sending their child to our school.
