Oahe Electric Cooperative, Inc. invites applications for the position of General Manager. The current General Manager will retire in December 2020.
Oahe Electric is a not-for-profit cooperative located in Blunt, South Dakota with a service area that covers the counties of Hughes and Sully. Oahe Electric delivers high quality, low-cost electric service to approximately 3,100 member-owners. Oahe Electric's mission is to provide member-owners and the public with extraordinary value through competitively priced services and products and to enhance the quality of life and create growth opportunities in their service area.
The Cooperative has a dedicated workforce of 13 employees, annual revenues of more than $11 million and a utility plant over $28 million. Oahe Electric is a member-owner of East River Electric Power Cooperative and is a Touchstone Energy cooperative. The successful candidate will have a broad knowledge of utility operations and have proven leadership, communication, management and people skills necessary to meet the challenges of the future. A strong commitment to serving the member-owners and the ability to work effectively with the 5-member elected board of directors while providing positive leadership to the employees is required. Cooperative experience and demonstrated commitment to the cooperative values is preferred. The General Manager will be expected to reside in the Cooperative's service territory.
Key requirements include:
Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, engineering or related field.
Ten years of progressively responsible management experience in the electric utility industry; at least five years with an electric cooperative preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience in personally working with a board of directors is a plus.
Ability to engage the board of directors, workforce, member-owners and others in developing and carrying out strategic initiatives.
Ability to foster a workplace culture that focuses on and embraces operational agility.
Proven leader who works inclusively and communicates effectively.
