Overview: The Senior Legal Counsel will be an ERISA lawyer responsible for leading strategic and tactical legal initiatives and providing senior management and Trustees of IPATIP’s defined benefit pension fund with effective advice and support in all aspects of governance, compliance and administration of a Taft Hartley multiemployer defined benefit pension fund. The Senior Legal Counsel will play an active role in the review of statements of work and negotiation of commercial services agreements. The Senior Legal Counsel will work together with IPATIP’s Administrator and support personnel and manage and oversee outside counsel. The Senior Legal Counsel will also manage employment issues and benefits litigation.
Firm: The International Painters and Allied Trades Industry Pension Fund is a defined benefit pension fund.
Experience: IPATIP seeks an ERISA lawyer with a minimum of 6+ years’ experience to serve as the Fund’s in-house counsel. Qualified applicants will have a strong working knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code, ERISA as it pertains to employee benefit plans and programs, and DOL laws and regulations. Experience working on matters of organizational governance, particularly trust governance, and with a Board of Trustees is essential. Strong communication and negotiation skills are required. The position calls for a high energy and enthusiastic attorney with prior experience in the area of defined benefit pension funds who is interested in working on both routine and challenging matters. Qualified candidates should appreciate and like diversity in their daily work and be comfortable working on a variety of projects and issues. Qualified candidates should also be comfortable in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
